Maximizing factory Unit and amp.
OK. Ive installed infinity 2 ohms all around the car to replace the factory speakers, except the factory sub which rattles like hell anyway. I even replaced the center speaker with a 2ohm infinity 3.5". I heard i could get a 3db gain. The sytem is really clear and all, but ive heard stock pt cruisers who systems were twice as loud! I have to turn it to 40 (all the way up) to be satisfied. Of course some recordings are louder and cleaner than others but i want more. Im nervous about messing with the factory head unit and amp to install a clean sweep or other signal processor for an amp. IS there ANY way i can Squeeze more DB out of what i have now. How much does Dynamat or other sound dampening help. Im going to add a 10" bazooka and i just think the bass will drown out what lil sound i do have. Its clear as hell, just not loud enuff. I guess because ive always drove cars with lots of amplification, as i wasnt afraid to mess with them. I mean who cares if u screw up a 1997 ford ranger?! BUt this 05 TL is my baby. please help! Need more DBs, please! PS, or should i just quit being a wuss and go all out with amps and processors and the whole nine yards?

Yeah I wouldnt do a Bazooka, I would suggest taking it to a car audio store and see what they suggest, remember you dont have to buy anything just see what they would do and go from there... its really personal perference

Well I wanted a small sub with integrated amp so i could just tap into my rear stock sub. Any other suggestions for something clean and compact. I also love big bass but without adding amps to the rest of the car i feel like i dont need to add sumpn too big as far as subs go. Any help will be appreciated. I have heard people talk smack about bazookas but they just seem easy! also the bazooka has a signal sensing so i wouldnt have to run a remote wire.

throwing a bazooka in the trunk will do nothing since the seats will dampen all the sound out. you will need something a bit more powerful, here's my suggestion as to what to do:
Get yourself an Uncald4 Box - he has various designs and custom ones, talk to him:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/uncald4-custom-enclosure-688580/
Get yourself a sub that will fit in the box and sound good, like the subs mentioned in that thread.
Get yourself 2 amps, one for the sub, and then a 4 channel one for the rest of the speakers. Tap the speaker outputs after the factory amp and lead them to the Amps. Be sure that your Amp's accept a high input signal, if not you will need additional hardware.
Then lead your wires to your speakers.
Deathtotoasters has a good DIY.
TO simplify
Factory HU-> Factory Amp -> Wire Taps -> Aftermarket Amplifier -> speakers
For the sub:
Factory Amp -> Factory Sub wires at sub -> wire taps -> aftermarket amp -> aftermarket subwoofer.

I wasnt sure if i could send a signal after the stock amp to an aftermarket amp. I wasnt sure if the wattage would be too much. BUt judging by the sound of the factory TL system, it aint puttin out much! So what ur telling me is I dont necessarily need the clean sweep or MTX 360 (or whatever its called)? I can tap the speaker outputs after the factory amp to a hi to lo converter or to an amp with hi level inputs?

+1 on the UnCald4 box. He makes one with an 8" JL. Add a 250/1 to it and you'll do yourself well.
I'm running a 10w3 in an UnCald4 box, and as long as I leave the pass-thru down, it sounds amazing. No other upgrades, and it's more than decent.

You will need a hi-low converter (Line out converter) or an amp that accepts high input signals. I would recommend the latter as the less splices, the less chance for interference and issues.

Find a woofer that you can IB (infinite baffle) in place of your factory sub, make an adapter out of MDF to mount it to the rear deck. You would still need to add an external amp, though. IIRC, JL amps have high level inputs...
I'm thinking about going in this direction, but it probably won't suit me very well...I need more bass than a single 8" can give me.

Its got A LOT to do with the sub that you choose, you can't just throw any sub in there and expect it to sound good. Do you remember what subs they were using? I have NO experience w/ this car, but I've heard quite a few different vehicles w/ IB setups...and they all sounded really nice. It could have something to do with the cabin/trunk, but i have a feeling it has something to do with the install.
I did search after I read your response, and I HOPE that this forum isn't full of JL Audio lovers. I'm not saying that they're bad, they're just WAY over priced. The W7 should be a $400 sub...

OK. I got it figured out. I just bought a 5 channel kicker amp and I will be ordering a box from the geniuses at uncald4. I dont think I can afford the w7, but i will find a sub with similar specs to match the provided airspace. Since im getting an amp for the mids and highs, i kinda wish i woulda waited before i put all those 2 ohm infinitys in there. I know they will sound fine, but i would rather run the amp at a 4 ohm load for SQ, right? Give me some feedback guys! Btw, ya'll have been alot of help already. Recommend me an affordable 10 or 12" sub, that will sound good in a small enclosure. Alpine, kicker, Jensen? Just kidding on that last one!

What size box are you getting? Is it ported or sealed? I'll be more than happy to help you find a reasonably priced sub. JL's are good, but you can find something just as good if not better for half the price.

ninja .... how did things go? i'm wanting to do this now too, and have been hung up on which road to take. I like that alot of the guys are supporting you without suggesting to get a signal processor.
guys ..... following this thread, what suggestions do you have on good amps and speakers that would work in this setup. I KNOW it's all up to personal preference, so to start it off I've always like Infinity so I might steer toward the Kappa's. My dealer is suggesting Morel, and he also carries Kaption (Canadian made).
As for amps, i've always liked Fosgate and MTX Blue Thunder Pro's, but not sure what they are like today or even exist anymore.
Any suggestions to keep this going? By the way i'm also reading through piles of posts at the same time as soliciting your help
