"UNCALD4" custom enclosure

I went from a 12 inch kicker L7 in a ported box to a 12 inch JL W7 in a custom corner enclosure built by uncald4.
I wanted to share some pics and my opinion on the new and old setup.
The L7 took up a lot of space and didn’t look like anything special, but it definitely did the job. It hit really hard, but the bass didn’t sound as clean as I wanted.
The W7 looks amazing and it hits harder and cleaner, I could not be more impressed. It is so nice to have trunk space again
Definitely worth the money...I just wish I did the custom enclosure to begin with.

Travis was excellent to deal with.. He is very professional and knows his stuff.

Enough said....here are the pics!

Very nice enclosure! Looks great!

However, it looks like the sub is begging to get punctured, positioned like that. But then again, what do I know about sound systems.

Looks good! But I have to agree with the above poster that the angle of it is off for some reason. You NEED a speaker grill for that thing, things fly around in the trunk!

I see you mounted your amp in the same place I did, works well huh?

Nice pics!!

It's always a good idea to have a grill on a subwoofer. Especially when you tote around freshly sharpened lawn mower blades and Samurai swords. However, I think Mr. Woo is smart enough to avoid a wound to the face of that beast. Finding a grill for a subwoofer with over two inches of forward throw is an impossible request on it's own.

I agree that it doesn't look like everything else but here form follows function. Most of us know that you'll get better bass response when the sub is fired toward the rear of the vehicle. In this case most of the sound pressure will travel forward into the cabin of the car. It's tipped to fire dead center of the trunk lid.

This setup is an INSANE amount of bass. He was running an S12L7 in a vented enclosure before. This 12W7 in this enclosure doesn't sound a little better. It completely KILLZ the L7.

i see you built an enclousure for the guy for a 12" sub, when i asked u about the boston G5 12" u said id be better off with a wooden enclosure.

i wonder if you ever got to make the mold on the right side of the trunk.

That set up is really clean/space conserving. W7... I'm somewhat new to audio and was looking into it. How did you mount your amp up there? Did you drill through the carpet and somehow bolt into the metal?

Very nice! I wish there was a way to do something like that to my two W6s but I assume you can't with the navi on the other side of the trunk. It would be nice to get some trunk space back.

I have my amp mounted the same way, I have a mdf board that I carpeted and bolted it up to the tray above. I then mounted the amp as normally with screws to the board

You sure can do that. You'd have to rewire the navi system to another area. Click the link below, this is the only navi move I've seen

This is a very nice setup. I actually considered getting my enclosure from UNCALD but decided to go with another builder that was closer to NYC so, being the impatient bastard I am, I would get it quicker since UNCALD is in Seattle I think. Price was about the same. The enclosure for a 12" sub that I have is not tipped like UNCALDs - with my trunk opened you can barely see the sub from the back because it is almost completely tucked into the corner facing sideways. I get a bit more trunk space and it sounds really good, but I wonder if it would have hit harder using UNCALDs enclosure according to the explanation he gave above. Didn't think about it at the time and probably should have done some more research at the time, but that's spilled milk now. Def get a grill though - I did because I keep some sports junk back there sometimes.

No matter, it sounds like you're pleased with your setup.

There is another company that sells "pre-made" custom enclosures for the TL, CL and TSX. Here's where I differ....

- I don't make your enclosure until you order it. I take into account your listening preference, the exact requirements of your subwoofer and what you want it to look like. CUSTOM means that it was made for your application.

- If it's not a good idea or not going to perform well I won't make it.

BIG thanks to woo and firstacuratl for helping me with the new design. Two complete extremes with the 12W7 and the 8W3 and outstanding performance from both. Below are pics of the 8W3 enclosure. Comments are welcome.

This enclosure was not permanently installed hence the cable was not run behind the carpet.

Amazing looks really nice.

I am adding 2 12w7, is it a good idea to install the subs toward the back of the trunk? I need trunk space for other purpose.

Unclad4,
is the total airspace for this enclosure 1.525 cu/ft. It seems kinda small, i saw someone had wooden enclosure and it look nearly half of the trunk space for 2 12w7.

Thanks for the tip

The W7 is insanely loud. The 8W3 is more my speed. A huge improvement over the OEM sub. Hits hard and accurate and still rumbles quite a bit for a small sub.

Wow that looks great and doesn't take away from the "usable" trunk space.

I might be interested in this as well... I assume you have a vendor page?

How did you get that amp to mount on such a flimsy panel? Any problems with overheating?

No overheating. It's not mounted to the thin carpeted panel. It's mounted to an amp rack that is bolted to the steel under-deck.

Very nice...I presume the amp rack was custom made? Do you have any pictures of how the rack was fabricated and attached to the underside of the deck?

Sorry. I rarely take progress shots. Once I start an install I'm locked on task until it's complete. There are tons of install pics on my website though. Maybe you can get some ideas there. The link is in my sig.
