Lost Signficant Remote Range
Lost Signficant Remote Range
Hi everyone,
I have been having an issue since the spring and with the cold it's slightly worse so I figured I would see if anyone had advice on this issue.
I have a 2004 5AT TL. I installed a AUX Adapter in the TL this past spring, using the CD changer port on the back of the radio to connect it, and ever since then I noticed my remote has lost the majority of it's range.
Here's the thread on the install: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-a...on-nav-970422/
In the summer I was still able to use it a maybe 10 feet away from the car, but now in the cold of winter, I literally have to be standing next to the driver door for the remote to be picked up. When it's a little milder I can get it to pick up from the side of the car at the taillights but not any further than that. Even to open the trunk, I can't be standing at the trunk because most of the time it won't pick up from there and I'll have to reach to the side of the car for it to work. This is more of a nuisance than an issue, as the remote still works consistently when it's in range, but I was wondering if there was something down there in the wiring that I could have nudged or hit and caused the issue to happen. I know the port on the back of the radio is always receiving power and so the AUX adapter is always powered as it doesn't have any switch but I don't think something like that should cause major interference with the key fob signal.
I haven't tried changing the battery on the remote, because it was working fine immediately up until the AUX adapter install, and the issue happened immediately after, so I figured it wouldn't be the remote battery. I don't think I've tried the other remote to see if it's a remote issue, but I will try that the next time I'm at my parents as they have my spare set of keys. I know a lot of other devices hook up to the same port in the back of the radio, so I am not sure why I lost major range, but I would rather not take apart the dash to see if unplugging the AUX adapter fixes the issues, especially since that will have to wait until spring.
Thanks in advance.

Changing the battery is easy and it probably could use it anyway, here's a tutorial link https://youtu.be/V5njeVQ2GxQ
Try unplugging it to rule that out. If you feel that that's the major culprit, that you gotta do the legwork to rule it out first. Which aux adapter did you go with?
Replacing the keyfob battery is the EASIEST troubleshooting step so you can knock that one out quickly and confirm that's not the cause..

No garage here so I'll have to wait until a mild day before I can start pulling apart the dash a bit to get to the plug behind the radio and confirm if it's the culprit, I didn't see any reviews on Amazon that talked about reduced range of the remote either so that's why I'm not 100% sure if it's the culprit or not. I'll definitely give the battery in the remote a shot though. It would be nice if that resolved the issue.
Long bump, but figured I would update since I just replaced the AUX adapter. It appears the issue has been resolved. The replacement is only powered with key on.
I think the main issue was that the AUX adapter was always powered, and since the system that talks to the remote is mounted in that same area, it was causing interference with the remote signal.
