lost with NAVI
me n some friends go to AC this weekend on the way back i just do the usual on my navi just hit tht GO HOME button
some how the navi directed us to the Cape May Ferry witch is closed in the middle of night find out i drove all tht for no reason and my destination was still about 2nhalf hours awat the DEL Mem Bridge... why did the navi do this o and
there was another 05 TL with NY tags and they were lost just as i was we both met up at the Closed FERRY
WHY DID THIS HAPPEND
and everytime i tried to change my routing the navi automatically kept directing me to the Ferry

cant you pull up a list of routes that you can take and pick the best one? With any navigation system it is usually beneficial to get an idea of the best way to go before hand so things like this dont happen. A friend of mine took a trip somewhere useing his navigation system and the route that it took him on the way there was something like 3-4 hours longer than the way he took on the way home after realizing what it had done
B-more to AC and back, sometimes take you through the back roads, OR sometimes it takes you through the AC Expressway and onto the Turnpike. Very finicky I used it many a times when I lived out there to get to AC

Lost with Navi? Tell me about it. Lately, mine's been taking me in circles to get to many destinations. As recently as last week, got off an exit off I-278 in Brooklyn and my entered destination should have had me make a left at the 1st light then go a few blocks, then right one block. Instead, my bamboozled Nav system wanted me to keep going straight on the service road 5 lights, make a left across the highway, make another left, then back down the service road on the other side of the highway 5 lights and make a right ...... FOR WHAT?? That's just 1 example of many. Today, Acura of Ramsey tells me this is all because I still have the original Nav DVD. I find that hard to believe.
I'd still rather have the Nav than be without it, but the way its been acting lately........

You can't "exclude" a route per se, but what you can do is to tell it "Show Routes" when you display the address. It will show up to five routes (if the trip is over 100 miles, it won't show all five since it won't let you choose "Minimize Freeways") and you can cycle through them using the "Next" command. Then, if you see a particular one you like, you can tell it to use that route.
Sometimes it seems to change its mind as you drive, though. If I plot out a route to Montreal, it wants me to take the NJ Turnpike to Exit 10, then I-287 around to the Thruway. Stupid route that goes way the hell out of the way to the west. If I make the trip, it changes its mind as I approach that area and it sends me up the Garden State Parkway from Exit 11 instead (which is a more sensible route anyway).
But anyway, stuff like this is why they have that "nag screen" disclaimer. You're supposed to look at the route before you start out, instead of slavishly following the navi without thinking about anything.
When I was in Atlantic City in 2004 (about two weeks after I got my TL) it sent me up the Atlantic City Expressway to the Turnpike. I expected it to prefer US-40 since it's more direct. But I had some fun when an unmarked cop car, not running radar, started pacing me and was probably getting ready to pull me over until a Ferrari flew by at about 110 mph....cop lost all interest in me (funny how that works).

yeah . My gf wanted to go to this sushi bar so I put that place in Navi.
I realized that navi lead us to drive around the destination for 10 minutes..
I was sure that the restaurant was at the near the corner ( marked in target sign on navi ) but it never lead us there but instead, made me drive around the block forever.
I decided not to use navi when I have people in my car.. Fucking embarassing ..

In the navi's database, there are two streets with identical names in NYC. I chose the wrong one and ended up some 20 miles away from my intended destination. On top of that, I had to pay two unnecessary tolls to get to where I wanted.

in your navi options you should put to avoid toll roads ... it helps in cities where there are a lot of tolls
It always pays to glance at your route before taking off. To avoid the ferry, you could have used the DETOUR function or list the directions and deselect the roads you don't want to take. "AVOID TOLL ROADS" may work, too. If the ferry is not listed as a toll road, report it to NAVTEQ so it gets updated on the next DVD release.
Something else I do is set a way point along the route I want to go.
