LCD display

Has anybody been able to disconnect the power to the navigation LCD screen without significant loss of function to the radio or climate control features? IIRC, if the DVD-ROM drive is disconnected and removed from the car, you lose the information display above the monitor.

I've decided that once the DVD drive gives up the ghost, I'm not going to fix it. However, I also don't want to drive around with an accompanying message on the LCD display telling me to get the unit serviced. Two things that I might have to do without is the clock adjustment and the radio equalizer. Is there anything else to be concerned with?
