Thumbs up Latest Mod: Custom Sub Enclosure

Hey guys,

Just wanted to show off my latest mod that I got installed this past weekend. First and foremost BIG UP to Justin and the crew at Wicked C.A.S These guys do amazing work, and extremely satisfied with the end result.

I went from 2 10" Infinity subs that were enclosed in a box that took up the majority of my trunk to 1 12W6v2 in a custom enclosure. I've now regained 90% of my trunk back!

Can't figure out to embed the pics into the thread. Check out the link below:

Do you notice a difference in sound quality between a side firing sub and a rear firing sub? There has always been a big debate in this. Just wondering how SQ has been affected. Not really worried about SPL.

This was a concern of mine as well. I went from 2 mediocre 10" infinity subs that were mounted in the rear to 1 high quality 12" W6v2 sub from JL audio thats mounted on the side. To be honest, it really isn't an apples to apples comparison because your dealing with a much higher quality sub. The biggest difference is how clean the bass is at all volumes and with all styles of music. And again, this goes back to the W6 being a far superior sub. Deep notes hit hard and precise especially compared to what I had. It is a little pricey, but the clean sound quality is definitely worth it IMO.

I really considered getting the W7 after hearing it in my buddy's car. But for my needs its overkill. After a 30 minute drive with a W7 drumming in the back, my vision got blurry!!!

I love the enclosure, and I plan to install a Memphis 10" sub. Question, I have to use my trunk quite a bit and I am concerned about damaging the sub. Has anyone given any thought to creating a raised grille over the sub? I am not very knowledgeable in this area, and don't know if it is theoretically possible. Also, can you fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk with the enclosure?

I know there is a standard/universal grill that JL supplies, unfortunately, the shop didn't have any in stock at the time. I plan on going back when they do and I'll be sure to post pics. I'm pretty sure most manufacturers also carry the same. Its just a matter of looking.

As for the the space thats available, I can throw in a set of golf clubs and still have room for plenty of groceries. Another good thing to note is that I can also get access to the spare donut underneath without having to move anything.

Like yourself, I use my trunk ALL the time. The form fitting sub enclosure is EXACTLY what I was looking for!

Thanks, great info. I used to have an 04 TL S-Type, I went to a Ridgeline for a couple of years, now I am back to a TL. I just picked it up a couple of days ago. I had some Focals, the Memphis sub and a Memphis baby bell amp in the truck. I pulled everything out and brought it back to stock before I traded it in. I can only imagine what the TL will sound like when I'm done. Christmas is coming early this year!

Very interested. Is your box the same design as Tiggaman's? Could send me pics and a price including shipping to SC? Thank you very much! FYI, sub is a 10.

TiggaMan, I'm not quite sure why I can not receive a PM. I tried sending you one and I got the message that I am not allowed access. Not sure what's up with that. Any ideas?

I'm torn..
1) A drop-in sub with higher sensitivty and power handling with a seperate amp I can dial up. :limited to 8" infinate baffle drivers which wont hit as hard, but I keep my trunk space for traveling. (what are my speaker options? JBl no longer makes the IB)
2) A drop-in sub with higher sensitivty and power handling with a seperate amp I can dial up. : use normal 8" speaker and fingure out a way to seal the back of the units. which will hit harder, but I keep my trunk space for traveling. (speaker options?? how do I seal it??)
3) amp & speaker with enclosure.. small enough (size/weight) to remove when trunk space is needed. Will hit hard and will satisfy most of my needs .. lots of boxes to choose from.. just a Q of how much $$ to spend
4) use my 12" kicker and amp I already have that takes up most of my trunk and weighs a ton. Hits hard and no $$
5) get a perminately installed solution.. lose trunk space perm, hits hard etc. $$$$$$$

Focal makes a 10" freeair sub but you then need to cut the sheetmetal and make a new grill.

Do you have a trunk tray? I am thinking of ordering one, but I am on the fence.... I picture with a trunk tray would allow me to see if the "crazy" ideas I have would be doable.

Also, how long did it take you to get your enclosure ( From when you ordered it?)

He was local to me so it only took 1 day for shipping. Fabrication takes a few days from the day your payment clears.

To hook up your amp did you have to use rca (interconnects) cable into your factory radio? Thanks
