Kicker L7?

wsup guys, i'm new to the audio world and hoping to get my first system for my TL soon. i got a cousin who can hook me up with one kicker L7 12'' with a sealed or ported box custom made all for 200 bucks. it seemed like a good deal to me so i just had a few questions to ask.

1. what kind of amp should i be looking for to go with this setup?
2. should i keep my box sealed or port it?
3. do i risk any major problems running this setup? (i.e. can my alternator handle this?)

just looking for advice and help. thanks.

1. Get an amp that can handle the RMS rating of the sub.
2. ?
3. Your stock battery/alternator will be just fine, if you listen to your music with the engine running.

1) Well I looked it up, and the Kicker L7 12" 2-ohm is rated at 750 rms. You should look into an amp that is 750 watts rms, give or take a little. Here is a Kicker amp I found that's perfect:

2) I've had both ported and non-ported enclosures and I prefer ported. I can't really explain why though, just from personal experience. It sounds like your cousin or whoever he is getting the hook-up though knows something about car audio. Ask them what they would do and why.

3) You should be fine with everything stock.

sweet thanks for the replies.
CL- that amp looks nice. but i saw on kicker site that they come in 2-ohm and 4-ohm. will that make any much of a difference? ill have to ask my cousin which one i'm getting and then ill show him the amp. Also he told me ported makes the bass sound louder while unported makes the bass sound deeper. he said it was all preference, so i just thought i'd ask here.

You'll need to figure out if the subwoofer is 2 or 4-ohm and then you can see what amp will be best for it. You don't have to get a Kicker amp, I had a JL Audio 500/1 on my Alpine Type-R and it sounded great. Check Craigslist and see what's for sale around you as well.

Wtf? I've never heard of a 6-ohm subwoofer. I thought they were usually 2 or 4-ohm.

^He must mean 4-ohm. In that case, that Kicker amp will still work just fine.

And you shouldn't need Dynamat at all. My trunk barely rattled, but you are going to be running 250 watts rms more than I was.

so just talked to my cousin again. he said the sub i'm getting is 4 ohms. does that affect the amp i should get? i read up on the kicker amp and it said it only does 375 at 4ohms. so should i opt for a bigger watt amp?

a 12" L7 can handle 700-1000rms all day if tuned properly and not abused. id go with at least 500rms
