JBL MS-8 Install, Please Help...

Hey everybody, been lurking on here for a bit and gotten invaluable knowledge. However, I now have a big issue and couldn't find my answer in other threads.

So I have the complete factory system and bought the MS-8 to install while I am saving up for a 5 channel amp, new speakers, and a sub. The shop is telling me it is going to be $350+ to install it and I only paid $300 for the damn thing.

So my question is, can I install this myself with only home audio/home studio experience or maybe with a friend who has a little car audio experience? And do I need a line driver, a wiring harness, or anything other than what comes in the box? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Quick update, so I had the shop install it and they butchered it pretty bad, so bad its not even working. They used the hi level inputs and took everything off my factory amp and ran the front and rear speakers off a 4 channel amp they also installed. They said the center and the sub are only running off the 20 watts from the MS-8 now (which I think is another problem) but right now I just want to know what to tell them to make it work. Should they hook it up to the RCAs, as during the setup it is saying signal low even at 39 on the factory head unit. And if so, should they only FL, FR, and sub as suggested in other threads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I had a audio control Lc6 processor installed for 75 dollars. You paid 350 and still got bad install work done. Get your money back and go somewhere else.

Well as much as I would love to do so I don't see them just handing me my money back. They said they will fix it but I am having to find out for myself how to do that so I can tell them. I have talked to the guy who was in charge of the development of the MS-8 over on DIYMA and am pretty sure I have it figured out. And trust me, $350 after all the wires and everything was the cheapest I found, car toys wanted $400 and this place called Lynx Customs wanted $600, apparently it is a pain in the ass to install in the 3rd Gen TL but what do I know.

Like I said I pretty much have it figured out, but if someone could help clarify if they should use the preamp or post amp signal to hook to the MS-8 RCA inputs and should they use just the FR and FL or the FR, FL, and sub?

Also, since your thread you posted has a ton of technical info that goes way over my head and you seem to know the car really well, if they use the preamp signal into the RCA inputs of the MS8 they will have to convert the speaker wire in RCA using the method you describe in your thread correct? If so then your thread will be an invaluable resource for me to print out and give to them so they do it right.
