Question iSimple Issue with PGGHD2 cable

Im having an issue, and Ive gotten it down to very specific details. I was hoping someone with the same setup (NavTraffic equipped TL) could try and recreate it, to see if my issue is isolated

Here are the steps:

Test 1:
Car on, turn iSimple to SAT mode (let it play)
Turn car to CD mode, let it load the disc, and start playing
Turn car off, while still in CD mode
Wait a few seconds, turn car back to ON
Let the CD read.

At this point, My dash display flashes between the CD Track number, and "DISC" every second or so. If I push "Audio" to get the audio screen, it immediatly switches itself back to the Map screen. This is my problem.

To solve the problem, while car is still on, push XM again, let it initialize, and then go back to CD mode, everything works fine, until you turn the car off.

However, if you do Test 2, it does not happen at all.. everything functions normal.

TEST 2:
Turn car on, switch iSimple to IPOD (let it play)
Turn car to CD mode, (let it play)
Turn car off, then back on
CD mode should work normally, with no problems listed above.

I have firmware .37b. I am afraid to update it because other users are having issues with it not displaying artists.

Could someone please take 5 minutes, and do this test, and let me know...

Thanks!

Nalek,
Have experienced the same "glitch" with isimple and the PGHHD2 cable. Your test two works as you describe and it is how i now use the isimple. I also have the 37b firmware.

Thank you! at least I know its not just me.
This weekend, I will backup the firmware I have, and then try the new one, and the 'general' one, and see what happens.
If nothing else works, I will email Peripheral.

I'll let you know if I find something

Me too (!) Thanks for the fix - I just put up with it until now. Please update this thread if you hear anything.

Since I have your attention, do either of you get "drive whine" from your iPod at the start of each track? Sort of a short whistling ripping sound.

Yeah - I think it's just my iPod. That was Travis' opinion as well.

Yeah I have all the dip switches in the ON position, did the 3 minute wait with car in acc. Still nothing! It worked for a day when I initially installed it. But I was doing some other work on the car and had to disconnect the battery. Does this unit reset itself, when the power is disconnected?

Maybe I'm not following the correct steps but I've tried several times and still nothing! HELP!!!!!!

Assuming that your iSimple is trunk located as the others in this thread - Only dip switch #2 should be in the on position. The rest must be off....

I'm having major issues associated with this...and I have a NON nav 04...meaning, it's not car specific...rather than getting stuck on the map etc...it just ignores me completely. I recently updated to 37b update too...had the issue before, but it's the same now. If on "SAT"...the radio basically acts like a stubborn girlfriend...press the button and turns on or off when it feels like it. Also, all EQ settings default to "0" and when you try and change them it'll go haywire and kick you out of EQ. Very strange.

Has there been any progress towards fixing the "disc" issue? I'm running .37e firmware.

I got in touch with tech support, and they were talking with their engineers, and they sent me a firmware to try. It was just an older firmware, and it did not work.

I let them know that, and they never communicated to me since, that was back in December.

Either we need to have more complaints to them, or live with it.

Clifton Brown <clifton.brown@pac-audio.com>

unigw.bin_636b.xuf is the FW he sent me to try, and I last emailed him 12/21/09. I figure he gave up..

Let me know if you hear back from him.

Sent him an e-mail. We'll see what he says. Hopefully they have a fix as I really like the unit and the functionality. This issue though, is highly irritating.

My problem is somewhat similar.

1. engine off
2. plug ipod
3. turn engine on with xm on ipod mode
4. display says 'IPOD' and nothing shows. can't control playlists, but forward/backward knob works. press disp few times, but can't show artists.
5. updated firmware, and im getting nothing
6. called tech, and tried to hard-reset on module
7. still nothing.
8. just over warranty.
9. arhgggggggggggggggg

Ok so between myself, the engineer and Clifton we found the issue in an Accord and were able to fix the issue and should have a new firmware available soon. This will also take care of the issue where the source name would show up in the category field intermittently. It will not longer show at all. Here is the email i got from the engineer.

We’ve found something in the Accord like what this guy is reporting. I went to the forum and did the steps they had listed and presto. So you can tell these guys they will have their new firmware soon and that we’ve also fixed the problem with the category field no longer showing what mode you’re in.
So keep an eye out for the firmware on the website and I believe if you contact Clifton he will send this file to you when available. Please spread the word and let others know.

Just an update. I have installed the updated firmware and it fixes the issue! Also feels like menu browsing is a bit more responsive which is a nice surprise. The update should be on the website. I was sent the updated firmware directly from Clifton. Not sure if they have updated the site yet (he had me download the installed but use a firmware file attached to the e-mail).

Sit tight guys... I'm sure someone will post the proper link soon.

It will be a little bit before the firmware is available. A couple of guys have this firmware and it does fix issues in not only TL but Honda / Acura as a whole. Until the firmware is released please get the file from those who already have it. This will fix issues with both PGHHD2 and PGHHD1 harnesses.

btw quick question.. The iSimple allows for the charging of the Ipod when the car is off. If I leave the ipod plugged in all the time do you see any issues concerning my battery drain? Or does the ipods draw such little power it wont matter if it sat there for 2 months?

Thanks!
