iSimple isn't being recognized

I have the iSim571 unit in an 05 TL. I installed it about a month ago, and initially it wouldn't read my iPod (7th gen Nano) so I tried a 6th gen nano and it worked perfectly, I then plugged my 7g nano in and that suddenly worked perfectly too, controls on steering wheel and ipod display info both worked seamlessly.
After the first day, it has only worked one other time. The iPod charges through the cord, but when I press XM to play the iPod, nothing happens. Nothing at all. If I'm listening to a CD, and I press XM, it just stays on cd mode. Same with radio. When I cycle through the inputs using the mode button on the steering wheel, xm doesn't even come up. But like I said the iPod is still charging. The firmware is updated, I don't know what to do. I bought it used and can't return it :/

verify switches are set properly and then I would do a hard reset. You need to pull out the circuit board and short out the largest capacitor. Re install and you should be good.

Alright, how do I short it out?

Right? It's so strange. My car is acting like the isimple isn't even plugged in but it's still charging the ipod

take the screws out and pull the circuit board out. There is a group of about 5-6 capacitors and there is only one large one in the group. turn board over and short out the large cap leads. done

Mine is starting to do the same thing now. It would automatically start playing my music when I had it set to auxiliary but now it just shows that it is charging the iPod. I have to unplug the iPod to the point where it says NO IPOD CONNECTED and plug it back in. It only did it every so often but now it's almost every time.

I'm going to pull the fuse for the XM unit and see if that will reset it. I'm using a classic 160GB iPod.

Okay so I know the capacitor I need to "short out" but how do I make it short? Just bridge the - & + terminals on the cap or? Is there a certain way to do this?

Just turn board over and short out the leads to that cap.

I found a work around / solution to the problem I was having. This would only happen when I switched between XM and the iSimple unit. If I leave it on the iSimple kit, it turns on just fine and I have no issues. Thankfully I won't be renewing my XM when the time comes.

...dude I don't know how to "short it out."

Do I need an alternate power source to short it out? Like I literally have no idea what you mean. Bridge the connections on the capacitor when it's plugged in to my car or..? What do you mean?

I had the iSimple installed and my car (2004 TL w/o NAV) and it wouldn't recognize the iPod (a 1st gen Mini) so that I could view the song titles on the head unit. It did work in "direct" mode where I could control the ipod to play songs. I was going to play around with the dipswitches, but the real deal breaker was that the charger wouldn't turn off and the ipod wouldn't pause even when the engine was turned off.

I returned it and got the USA Spec. No problems with that so far.

Follow this to drain the capacitor pohljm is referring to.

If you do not currently have an activated subscription through XM I recommend physically unplugging your XM Tuner in the right rear of the trunk. So that it limits the communication between the modules to just the radio and the iSimple. My iSimple Connect still needs a hard reset every so often when it gets cold and the the battery gets strained during cranking. But unplugging that module should cut down on the frequency that you have to mess with your iSimple module.
