iSimple iPod Issues

Hey all, I just bought an '05 TL non-navi 6spd last Monday. When I was showing it to my parents I was explaining how I've seen a couple videos on how iPod unit cables were installed in the cubby holes below the radio I popped one open and there was an iPod cable there already, hah!

I've been trying to get my 5th gen iPod Nano to play on the setup and I haven't had any luck. I've tried pressing the Radio then XM button and pressing Tune^. Has anyone else had issues with the iSimple setup?

what happens when you connect iPod? does it charge? when you hit XM what happens? dont press tune......rotate the tune knob and see if it cycles thru other options for sources. have you tried following the ipod cable?

When I connect the iPod it does charge the device so there is a connection. When I press XM it changes to the XM Station; since I don't have XM is just plays the demo-stations. When turning the Tune knob it just cycles through the XM demo stations. The iPod cable runs through a hole in the bottom cubby hole below the radio and I have not taken apart the dash to follow it further, yet.

Hit fm then when you hit xm again you have to turn the knob right away.

I've already tried that.

Perhaps the iSimple mode may be configured on the CD changer instead of the XM (not sure why anyone would do this, though).

I read the CD changer stuff too in the instructions and that's a no go as well. I'll probably have to open up the console and take a look.

Do you know for sure that it's an iSimple? I'm not familiar with USA-Spec, but maybe their button mashing is a little different.

At any rate, opening up the console sucks. A plastic interior trim removal kit and patience is definitely required (don't forget to disconnect your battery either). While you're at it, you should also rip the module out and update its firmware.

The iSimple logo is on the iPod interface connector. The youtube videos on opening up the console don't seem toooo bad but I picked up a set of interior-panel tools a couple weeks ago so that'll help. Thanks for the heads up on the firmware stuff too.

I see; that would be a dead giveaway IMO, the YouTube videos make it look too easy. I tried following it to install my iSimple; their video makes it seem like it can be done in 45 minutes; I took like 3 hours, but maybe I'm just clumsy.
