Huh? I'm lost... how are going to use this? How are you going to get the clip back in?

That's a great idea! I'm surprised I didn't think of this...

Cmeance, you can always use the long flathead screwdriver to push the harness back in (i.e. the Y-adapter) but the hook he made is perfect for getting to that clip.

LOL! you're right, i'm surprised that a coat hanger didn't somehow help the three souls of Apollo 13 like the duct tape did...

I was getting PISSED when I couldn't get my harness out! I finally decided to to take that knee panel off, it only took and extra 10 mins and saved me much frustration. I found it easier running the wire to the ipod since I had the knee panel off and the console apart too.

I didn't use a hanger....I used this...just kneel outside the car and put your head on the accelerator pedal and look up where the arrow is. You will see a white plug. (Only white plug) Push down on the top center of the white plug to disengage the lock on the plug and pull it out at the same time. Look at the harness with the unit to get an idea of how it locks.

Then just fish it out. To plug in the y harness I used a coat hanger line it up(you need to be able to adjust it to get the angle right) Then press it in with a long screwdriver to engage the plug. I could not get the angle right with just the screwdriver. Take your time. In the right lighting you will not need a flashlight to see up there so you can use two hands...

Good luck....

Ok so I installed my iSimple today, and I just wanted to let you guys know that the hangar/vicegrip and allen key/long flat screwdriver suggestions seemed impossible for me.

I can't imagine how anyone could get anything back there without removing the knee panel. As CarrieLynn said, removal of the knee panel took about 10 minutes (Thanks to the help of Elegant Type S). Even with the panel off it was a pain in the ass to get the harness plugged back in to the radio.

With a little persistence, I managed to plug the harness in and everything was smooth sailing from there. This iPod integration solution is absolutely wonderful.

haha NICE! I'm glad I'm not the only one! Let me just tell you how much of a dumbass I felt like when I could not get the plug out (before I removed the knee panel) I was so frustrated I left my car in pieces and went back to finish it the next day, I had to walk away before i broke something. The next day I took that panel off and had that thing installed in no time

I think it's worth anyone's time to determine if they're capable of the "quick method" (non-panel removal) of installing this unit....

Hell, if it doesn't happen, remove all the panels you want... i would not discourage anyone, however, from trying the quick method first (not saying anyone is doing that on this thread...)

I just got ANOTHER pm from a member stating he got the quick method to work....

if u do it without BSing around (except for planning your wire run) you can be done in 45 mins. i can get all of the panels off in under 8 mins lol. back together in 15..... its all about having the right tools and of course knowing where to pull and pop

You can't do anything with Elegant Type S without BSing around

but we did manage to finish the iSimple install in well under an hour.

Just got my PA15HON2 and MAN is that spot a bit**! I can see it, just can get to it. So close, yet so far...

Wish one of you lived closer to me for some help!!

check this out
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/comptech-short-shifter-install-pics-3g-garage-086-a-590326/
The pics in this thread will show you how to take off the panels you need to get to the harness. You will need to remove part of the center console too but that is all included here. I realize you are NOT installing a short shifter so some of this stuff will be useless to you but this thread has good detailed pics. PM me if you need more help. Good Luck!

ahhh that is a great thread.

I'm a little wary about screwing up the clips that hold the trim in place... last thing I want to do is spend money on that!!

nah, that trim pops right off, you do have to be a little rough with it tho...just put a piece of cloth or something between it and the butter knife or whatever you are using, just like he shows in the pics. Trust me those clips are hard to screw up, I cant even tell you how many times I've had mine off...

Don't trust her... she's a girl!

Actually, I agree with everything she said. You've got to trust that it won't break. It will require a bit of force - especially at the top.

Start from the back and work your way to the front. Best advice I can give you is this...

Throttle your strength. Pull progressively harder little by little, while being ready to stop immediately as soon as the clip gives. When each clip pops loose, go to the next one and do the same thing.

LOL - I'm going to try this weekend with a screw driver to put in the connector without removing anything. BTW: Cdn units do not have anything plugged into this port, so I don't have to remove anything, just put this in.

Can't get the quick method to work without removing something. I test popped a couple of the trim clips and they came up surprisingly easily. I will give it a full go this weekend.

Wish me luck!!

Ok guys - call me a wuss...

Tried taking off the trim - got to the top and fooled with it for 15 minutes before deciding I didn't feel like breaking it. There's a shop that's 5 minutes from me that did it for $45CAD (About $30USD). I figured if I broke a clip or bent the trim, it would cost me more...

At least its all installed now, cleanly, and in the console.

Great - now it's installed and I'm getting some noise issue...

Anyone else get noise when it's charging? It's faint, but it's there.

Also - I have a 2nd gen touch unit. Notice that when I control the song from the car, it stops charging for 3-4 seconds then starts again. This is how I can tell the noise is from the charging. Anyone else have this?

^ Maybe you have a loose connection. My Ipod kept connecting and unconnecting while driving. But I found out the Y cable was loose. Anyway, this easy method was way harder. I ended up just taking the console apart. I have the same unit as you and there's no problems. Did you get the 5V cable?

I had another question related to charging though. It seems that the iPod doesn't stop charging when the car is off. Anyone experience this? I know it's unlikely, but can the iPod just keep charging off my car battery even when the car is off? Is it going to pose a problem later (ie drain my battery?). Thanks.

I have had my car sitting for a week straight without driving it with the ipod sitting in there and no problems.
