Well after ripping a majority of my dash apart I found out that if you have Nav, the cable is not on the bottom of the headunit -- but rather on the back. As such the entire head unit has to be removed. I suckered up and paid a local stereo shop $70 to do the install for me. The Denison sits in the pocket under the head unit, and I can scroll through the songs with the steering wheel controls.

Sound is great and it's a pretty slick little unit. Only problem is that it does not turn off when you turn the car off, as such you cannot leave the ipod in the cradle, since it will drain the battery.

Well worth the 200 bones.

You're a braver man than I for trusting somebody else to take apart your TL's dash!

Why? Any reputable shop has the appropriate tools to hook under those dash clips -- I just have sockets, wrenches, and torque bits. Never really saw the need to invest in interior trim tools.

Pretty straight forward to pop off the upper dash, just need to get the clips first and then pull it forward.

I suppose. I'm just leary to let some hourly guy tear apart my TL -- especially seeing he's probably never taken apart a 3G TL dash before. I've seen what it's like to take apart that dash and I wouldn't trust anyone to put it back together and still not have pieces left over, haha. Maybe it's just me. I'm anal like that.

3G dash? Hardly. It's a trim piece, probablly costs a few bills at the most.

The TL is still a Honda at the end of the day...not a Ferrari Enzo. Don't be skeered, that's just lame.

The reason you pay a PRO to do the install is that you (like me) don't have the tools or knowledge.

Now grow a pair, and install that iPod

I am trying something a bit different. I am using a scosche bluetooth receiver and transmitter. Plugs into tthe ipod and the broadcasts to the receiver. you can't control the ipod, but it is effectively wireless. I would like to run the connections through the trunk rather than the dash. I cannot find any postings on how to do this, and pcis would be great. Thanks for any help.

This thread is a year old? Many people are going with an AUX input, I am sure it has a better sound quality than anything wireless.

and bluetooth is built more for telephone quality sound, not CD quality.

I've tried listening to music from my computer on my bluetooth headset, its not clean, but still listenable.

Dealer installed iPod system is lame

I find it strange that nobody has commented on my biggest gripe about my new 2006 TL: the dealer installed iPod system. It uses Acura's TTS (text to speech) system, which is so hard to use and frustrating I'm thinking about having the dealer remove it and get my $400 back. Doesn't anyone else have this system and the same problems I have with it? A crappy voice (Michelle) goes through the alphabet until the artist or album starting with the desired letter arrives, at which time you press a certain audio button and she stops. Then, within one second, you have to push the button again to get her to go through the albums or artists starting with that letter. When you hear the target artist or album (commonly pronounced very poorly) you push the button a second time. However, you almost always get the album or artist just before or just after the one you want, so you go through the whole procedure again. There seems to be about a 0.2 second window of opportunity to hit the button the second time in order to get the desired selection, and this is no exaggeration. Does the icelink, or whatever it's called, "talk" to you like the Acura system? By the way, I have the navi system, but you don't get any iPod info on it--it's all auditory (not even on the little display above it do you get anything from the iPod). The icing on the cake is that your iPod, which is stored in the glove box, displays a big check mark to show it's connected properly, and you can't use the iPod controls while it's connected. All you can do is advance or go back a song using the steering wheel or audio control. IT JUST STINKS! You can't even fast forward or rewind. How does this compare to the icelink operation/interface?

Good job on performing a search first.

Actually, a lot of members have complained about the Acura MusicLink. I guess if you knew what it was called you would have found threads on it.

There are several alternatives to the MusicLink. Check out this thread for a synopsis: 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ

Nice answer

I did do a search :smartass: but I didn't use the term "musiclink." You're right, I didn't know what Acura called it. Sorry to waste your time

Dude, you got the wrong impression.

Unlike most newbies, you actually took the time to perform a search (and in the process you've resurrected an old thread). I was simply complimenting you on it.

Thats the thing with forums (and email), sometimes people don't actually read it the way you originally intended your post to be read.

Oh well, I hope that link I gave you helped.

Hi Ryusanchez,

Welcome to the forums! Can you be more specific with your question? What do you mean you can't play off your playlists? How is your iPod connected through the radio?

I didnt understand what he was asking either. If you plug it into the AUX in the 2007 you will get sound but no other interaction on any display (unless he bought that thing from accura, musiclink..)

Can't find answer to icelink question

I want to have my Musiclink removed--too many quirks. But I can't find out whether the icelink shows iPod screen info on the navi screen. Does anyone know? I'd like iPod style screen control on the navi screen. 2006 TL

In the meantime, I've read the manuals, but I cannot get rid of the problem in which the Musiclink system randomly announces the names of an album, artist, or even strings of digits, between songs when using the unit in the car. Any known solutions? Manually removing the ZZZ....files from the iPod (and even tried removing them from the iTunes music list) didn't work and may have screwed things up worse. Thanks.

There are a few Ice Link Plus threads around. Heres one:
ipod Dension Ice link plus mod attempt, 05TL non navi

Anything that will show iPod info on the navi screen would require a video interface like Dom's TVandNav2Go. The Acura TL head unit does not accept any external video input like some aftermarket headunits and apparently some European car makers (from Dension's website). IMO, Dension is targeting this market.
