IPOD (neo ion sp) installation ideas Please help me find an answer

I have searched and searched the forum about installing an IPOD to the TL factory headunit (w/Navi). If i dont want XM what are my direct connect options (no tape adapter or fm mods). Has anyone tried Neo iOn SP?

Same Here

I too would like more info on this. The neo ion sp takes advantage of an additional input on the back of the head unit. What I'd like to know for sure is:

1. On Navi TL's, is there definitely something using that input?
2. If there is, what is it?

Some are saying that the additional input is used by the XM receiver. If that's the case, then I would assume that if one were willing to do without XM, they could use that input for the ipod w/the neo ion sp. But, others are saying that they have heard from the manufacturer that the device is not compatible with Navi TL's. This would seem to indicate that the Navi somehow takes advantage of that additional input!

So which is it? I think I'd be willing to give up XM for a tight ipod integration, but definitely not the Navi!

What we really need is an external switch that accommodates all of the pins on the input in the back of the head unit. I would think that this would be fairly simple to build. Does anyone have detailed wiring diagrams of the input(s)?

Please, don't everyone respond at once.

Did some more digging and found this info:

TL Stereo Wiring Diagrams (thanks to vikrampatel)
http://www.acurakid.com/tlaudiodiags.zip

IPOD Pinouts
http://pinouts.ru/data/ipod_pinout.shtml

IPOD Mods
http://stud3.tuwien.ac.at/~e0026607/...e/ipod_ap.html

The "3rd" input is definitely the xm receiver. It uses 9 pins from a 14 pin connector. I may try to put something together that switches between the Neo iON unit's connector and the xm connector. I know it can be done - something like a VGA switch.

Look at the IPON Pinoouts and Mods link. There are two things that are very interesting:

1. There is a video out pin on the ipod...Navi display : )!
2. There is potential for operation of the Ipod via an advanced remote - say, possibly, the Navi display : )!!

It's there waiting. Someone's going to do it eventually. Who'll be first?

How hard is it to get to the back of the radio to install this? Do you have to take the radio out or can you get to the back while the radio is still mounted? Anyone have instructions on taking the radio out of the dash if that's what we have to do?

A lot of people have hacked into the XM line input in the trunk.

As for the iPod end... The video out is for the iPod photo and displaying pictures, there's no interface. The remote control interface might be interesting, but only if someone figured out how to add custom interfaces to the navi system. Here is an illuminating link to some information regarding the protocol:

If this device is not a vaporware, and does everything the company claims, I will be glad to buy it.

So what's the solution to remove the radio? Does anyone have the service manual page I asked for in my other post?

# IPOD (neo ion sp) installation ideas Please help me find an answer

The Neo Ion SP didn't work for me. I had to returned it.

Installed it successfully in the XM Radio Input. The problem is that the Neo Ion SP has many bugs. Whenever I turn the ignition off and on again, the thing just didn't work and took the whole radio out. I had to disconnect and reconnect the Neo Ion SP to reset the whole system everytime I turn on the ignition of the car.

Whenever I got it to work, I still had problems controlling the iPOD from the radio controls. I read some threads in this same community stating the exact same problem. Some people solved this by installing a switch that gave them the ability to turn the Neo Ion ON and OFF at discretion. Not a solution for me, so I returned the thing.

By the way, I found the instruction to disassemble and assemble the center console in this very same community.

The following URL shows some of the removal instructions (you can figure out the rest):

Hope this helps

Bugs and inflated claims- this is what I was afraid of. Santir, did you get any explanation from the factory?
I asked another company with similar product- PIE about TL adaptor. This is reply I received:
"We don't have and adapter for your application, we don't have one in the
works. There is a high demand for this part. We have plans on producing one
(have not determined application with models equipped with navigation),
however, no ETA is available at this moment."

NO... They told me to send the Neo Ion for test and if they found no deficiency with the unit they will refund my money. Well ... they refunded my money.
