Hey all,
Just been thinking for few days about adding an ipod adpter to my 04 TL-NON navi. I see there are several options. maybe you all can guide to the right direction. here is what i want to do. I need an ipod adpter that will keep my CD changer active. as am still going to be able to play CD. which one should i go with.
USA spec
DICE
Isimple
Upac
i need an adpter which also allows me to control the ipod on the radio console.
Thanks a million all

I have a Dice unit and have not had any problems out of it. I disconnected the XM unit so I could get text. It seems to work better with my iPod touch than with my 5th gen video for some reason but I think that has more to do with my iPod than the unit itself.

Full of water...
it depends what you are looking for exactly. they all have goods and bads about them...
i have the USA Spec and love it, but it does have an occasional hiss which is a little annoying, and there is no song details on the display which is what i prefer.

well i want my unit to display song name etc... i'm not too sure which ipod to go with. but that is the least of my worries. Is your cd player still working fine? or do i lose that?
sorry for all the questions, just new at this

The only thing you loose with the Dice unit is XM if you want text. I think one of the other units offer song info as well but I'm not sure. My CD player works fine but I hardly ever use it now. The Dice unit will charge iPod/iPhones and will stop and start the song when stopping and restarting your car as well. The only thing it will not do is pause the song when making/recieving a call on the HFL since it emulates XM radio. The sound is the CD quality also. I can tell a slight difference but I think that has more to do with the bit rate of my mp3 but I gurantee your passengers won't notice.

^^ I agree with rodneyc77.
The DICE i-Honda-R3/R4 kit was the best available for several years. Peripheral addressed the few issues that the DICE kit had and ran with it. The DICE Silverline and the Peripheral Media Gateway (iSimple) are very similar in function. However, here are the benefits to the Peripheral....
- Upgradable firmware via mini USB
- iPod TEXT on radio without loss of XM
- Full control with TEXT on radio in IPOD mode or fully unlocked iPod with control from iPod in AUX1 mode.
My wife still has the i-Honda-R4 Silverline kit in her NAVI Accord and she like's it just fine. I have the Peripheral Media Gateway in my truck and love it. If I drove the Accord more it would have a Peripheral as well.

It would be great if someone could assemble a list of all the pro's and con's of each unit. It would sure help me make the proper selectiion. I have a Type S with XM and do not want to that functionality. But I'm not sure what each one does and does not do.

Acura/Honda: Not compatible with factory radios that have 6-Disc in dash CD Changer and not compatible with navigation radios

As far as pausing goes, the current iSimple does not pause when HFL is active. However supposedly with the new cable I believe it does. Nobody has the new cable though except for playa4real he got the prototype version.

At the moment, I'm considering the iSimple GateWay/PXAMG or the USA Spec PA15-HON2. I JUST started researching both and I can't seem to find much information consolidated in one thread. It seems most drivers want different options and the above interfaces seem to deliver varying results. I think in choosing an interface, you need to consider what you want:
1) retain steering audio controls
2) charge 3g or latest gen iPod devices
3) display text on Navi
4) varying control/usage of playlists or ipod library
5) ease of install
6) cost
7) ability to pause music when using the HFL
8) XM radio retention
9) known issues
10) special features
Ok. That said, here's what I found...someone please correct me where I'm wrong as I'm pulling this info from multiple sources and for some...I have no info on.
iSimple/PXAMG:
1) retain steering audio controls
Yes
2) charge 3g or latest gen iPod devices
Yes
3) display text on Navi
Yes? - A picture of how it looks would be fantastic.
4) varying control/usage of playlists or ipod library
_________ Don't know
5) ease of install
_________ Don't know but it looks like there's more pieces to the iSimple than the USA spec so I'd have to figure it's at least slightly more complicated.
6) cost
Avg: $229?
7) ability to pause music when using the HFL
Don't know
8) XM radio retention
Yes?
9) known issues
I've read somewhere that there are issues where the playback volume is too low? I've also read another post where it takes 3-4 minutes for the device to boot up.
10) special features
Firmware can be updated via USB - which is cool.
I'll post the USA spec in another thread since I did quick reply here and it's too damn hard to read.

Ok. For the record, I have a PA11-HON2y and have no MAJOR issues with it...and install was a breeze. I will assume the PA15 did not break anything with the PA11 - that is, the PA11 supported steering wheel controls, I' have to assume the PA15 will as well.
USA Spec PA15-HON2
1) retain steering audio controls
Yes.
2) charge 3g or latest gen iPod devices
Yes...though some say you need to purchase a newer cable. The USA Spec site does mention it WILL charge 3g iPods and it does come with all cables for this? It may depend on when you purchased this device.
3) display text on Navi
Yes
4) varying control/usage of playlists or ipod library
Yes. Supports playlist mode which on the PA11 is kinda...odd. Also lets you choose songs using your radio controls.
5) ease of install
Should be easy...
6) cost
$179 cdn at crutchfield or $144.95 US
7) ability to pause music when using the HFL
Don't know...
8) XM radio retention
Yes.
9) known issues
Some people report skipping - I've had this on the PA11 but it doesn't happen often for me...once every hour or so. Others report a varying (in sound level) hiss - which I would imagine - sucks. Not sure if this is because of interference from power wires etc.
10) special features
None that I can think of?
Overall, ease of install, cost and it seems to deliver what most drivers want.
I was going to add an "overall" statement for the iSimple but I guess I can't edit posts if they're not the immediate last one, anyway. The iSimple seems to have it all though for what looks to be a device/interface that has fewer (potential ) problems over the USA Spec, you are paying for that assurance in both price and possibly install.
Someone please fill in the blanks and if you have more criteria to add, feel free. Also, I'm not researching the Dice unit because a) my head will explode and b) most people trend towards the iSimple being superior to the Dice.
