Which IPOD adapter??
Which IPOD adapter??
Okay I have read most of the posts and I am at a loss. It seems to me that there is not a good IPOD adapter out there. I was about to purchase the USASPEC, but they have removed it based on some improper functioning. What should I do? I don't want a tape adapter or FM modulator. Will the USA-SPEC work on an 04 in the direct mode? Any input would be appreciated. I am using my built-in XM BTW.
There aren't many reported problems with the '04 TL concerning iPod interfaces. Recently, its been '06 and some '05 that have issues. The USA Spec will allow direct mode.
When you refer to "they have removed it," who are you talking about? USA Spec? or the online store you were planning on buying it from?
The alternative to the USA Spec, is the Blitzsafe HON/M-Link. Not sure if this will allow direct mode, but I think it does. You should give it a search to get more details.
I think you should be relatively safe with whichever interface you choose. Check out logjam

I have the USA spec Ipod adapter installed in an '04 TL w/navi. I have had no problems with it, no XM bleed, I absolutley love it! It would be nice if the track/artist info displayed on the screen. Oh, well... installed it myself and have it set up to function in direct mode.
I just installed a USASpec in an 06 TL and there are no problems with mine either.
The only thing I don't like is what is left on the HU display (or lack thereof) for information.
I noticed that Denison has a DICE interface for Honda's that I think allows control from both the IPod or the HU.
I've also got an 04 Pilot that I want to add and interface so I am thinking about getting a DICE once they start shipping to try on my TL. If it doesn't work out, then at least I know I can use it on my Honda.

My iPod adapter? I use the cassette deck.
I was given an ipod when I purchased my car from the dealer. I took 3 months but finally got it. They were going to give my a shuttle, but I asked them for a Nano because it took so long.
The cassette adapter was part of the portable DVD player I purchased for my kid when we go on long trips.

USA SPEC seems to be the best one so far. I've got it in my 04 TL and have issues with the iPod interface. I'm using the aux in right now with a belkin car kit and that's working much better than the direct USA SPEC iPod hookup in my car. Call USA SPEC first and ask them about compatibility issues with the TL. When I talked with USASPEC tech support about 3 weeks ago they said they were working on a new unit that was officially supports the TL.

Just track number at best. Check out the USA Spec thread.
I know you said you don't want to do fm modulator, but given the issues with the various direct wire approaches, I'm tempted to replicate my prior Maxima install. That used an iPod dock feeding a wired fm modulator. The end result sounded pretty good (it's not like the iPod's inherent sound quality is that great so that the fm modulator destroys some pristine signal).
And it gave me a very easy to use interface:
The only issue I'm having is figuring out a good (non-destructive) mounting location.

^ Nice install there.
Other than an iPod interface, there are other options out there such as aux input. This post will sum it up for you: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...66&postcount=5
FM modulation will work better in some areas than others. For the best sound quality, a wired solution is the way to go. I went with the PIE X3.

I have the M-Link from Blitzsafe- easy install and works well (in an 06 with Navi)- the only downside is that you can't use the steering wheel controls nor the screen of the stereo to operate the iPod- that has to be done from the iPod itself (volume controls are still adjustable through the steering wheel though). I got mine for $79 ($92 w/ shipping). Installed in <2 hrs.
The wife just got an xB with integrated iPod, it kicks ass, track info on the factory head unit, seamless usability, steering wheel controls. So when's Acura gonna figure out they need fully integrated iPod support for the factory deck? For being such a tech packed car they sure missed the boat with no MP3 or iPod support. I'm on my 3rd adapter in the TL and it's still half-ass. Almost makes me want to get an xB. Well, almost.
I finally decided to try this device even though I've read many posts about how FM transmitters don't work well. So I finally got this mainly for the charger feature. But I was surprised how well it works. I put it in the bottom middle compartment and it's completely hidden. The ipod wire comes up nicely through a slot to the top compartment.
Very happy with it so far and glad I didn't have to spend $ and have someone or myself try to do mods on my new TL. Sometimes I leave the ipod in the top compartment and other times I have it sit in the drink area. Hidden so theives don't see it
I have a mini but it can also charge my kids shuttle too.

I ended up ordering a DICE interface that is listed for my 04 Pilot. Thinking that since the USA Spec interface also had listed my 04 Pilot, I thought they had the same connections.....wrong.
At least I can put the DICE into one of my vehicles and I'm not going to worry about having the ipod info on the HU.
Oh well.
