iPhone Integration Solution for '08 TL w/ Nav

First post (love the forum thus far.) I apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere, but the search function pulled up nothing and I haven't been able to answer the question reading through the multiple lengthy threads on general iPod integration.

I just bought an '08 TL w/ nav (love it!) and want to integrate my 3G iPhone into it. Are there any solutions that A) do not compromise any of the functionality of the factory system (e.g., XM, Nav, NavTraffic), B) show artist/song text from the iPhone, C) control the iPhone from the radio with track FF/RW controls at a minimun, and D) charge the iPhone 3G?

I've emailed Peripheral and they state they have nothing which will work. I've emailed USASpec about the PA15HON2 but have yet to hear back from them on what functionality that unit allows/limits.

Does anyone know what will work? I'd be willing to settle for no song text being displayed if necessary, although I'd really prefer it.

Thanks in advance for the help, it's appreciated.

The setup I'm using for iPhone 3g is the PIEX3 + Dom's Nav Converter Unit + Apple Composite AV Cable. There is no text display on screen but not only can I listen to audio and charge the phone, I can also watch video or movies from the iphone onto the nav screen and youtube as well. I think that's cooler than having song info on the screen.

I just ordered a proclip car mount, so when that comes in tommorow, I'll finish it all up and put my car back together.

XM/FM/AM/PM/AM all other shit works as should be with this option. Nothing sacrificed.

Thanks Elegant, but I don't think that solution will work for me.

I don't have any interest in getting video to my unit and unless I'm reading the product summary wrong, the PIE X3 doesn't seem to offer control of the iPhone/iPod (e.g. track FF/RW) from the factory headunit. Without control of the unit, I might as well continue to use the Griffin Autopilot charger and aux-in that I currently have setup.

I saw a post in here somewhere with the NavTraffic where the ipod interface was plugged into the XM unit in the trunk, then the ipod cable was ran up into the cabin. It was a DIY - find that thread and you're golden. I've been looking for the thread myself with no luck. help anyone?

This is the thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/i-058-playa4reals-peripheral-pxamg-install-3g-type-s-698771/

However, you are not golden until 1st quarter of 09 because the guy who made that thread has a prototype harness made specially for the 07/08 to keep the nav traffic. This harness has not been released yet. Also the iphone will not charge due to the fact that the iphone uses a 5v charger. There is someone who got the iphone to charge though I believe by using an adapter he found on ebay. I know this doesn't help you right now, but if you can wait you should have a viable option that does most or all of what you want sometime soon.

So I was reading some more into this and apparently the Dice and USA Spec will charge the iphone now. I would still wait and get the Peripheral unit over those though.

Can you guys confirm that all I have to buy is the icable from Monster Cable and plug one end to the iphone and the other end to the aux input in the center console will work? Just for listening purpose not charging. I had no idea what that hole is for in the center console. please advise.

I'm talking about that plug below the 12v charger.

Don't waste your money on that Monster Cable solution, just grab one of these and you can charge your iPhone while you plug it into the aux input (which is the thing below the charger on the 07 & 08's.)

http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Techno...9789766&sr=1-2

Plus, it looks the iCable goes from 3.5mm into RCA's which wouldn't even work since there aren't RCA inputs in the car.

+1 Monster Cable FTL. You just need a 1/8" M to 1/8" M patch cable. Right now I am using this:

http://us.kensington.com/html/14492.html

It connects to the dock connector on the bottom, and the AUX and power in your console. Includes a remote as well. This is my solution until I can install a real interface.

That sounds like a nice setup. How hard was the installation? When your iPhone is hooked up, you maintain all touchscreen functionality, but it can output to your navi screen any video? Also, is this the case for the iPod too? I want something where i can output video to the navi and maintain my iPod's controls. What's the setup cost?

thanks a lot!

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm having a hard time finding the consensus --- Now that they're both released, what product are folks most leaning toward for iPhone/iPod integration into 07 and 08 TLs with XM traffic, the PA15 ACU XL, or the PGHHD2/PXAMG?

From a Youtube video I saw, it looks like the PA15 uses one of the two sets of XM presets. This poses a challenge for me as my wife and I each have a page of presets and knocking one of them out for the iPhone would be tough. The iSimple approach seems to maintain both sets of XM presets, correct? What are some of the other pro's/con's relative to one another and which one are folks having the most luck with?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I take it from the lack of answers to this over the past week that this is a question that has been answered a few times over in other threads. Anyone care to point me to one of them? (I really did try to search the answer out and sure would like to make an informed purchase.)

I need to get Elegant's setup. Seems much less expensive than buying an entire new unit.
