iPhone and incoming CID

I tried searching for an answer but couldn't find anything so here goes...

I have an iPhone 6 and don't have any issues with the HFL other than I cannot see the incoming caller ID on the MID. It only shows "Incoming call" so the caller ID is either not being sent from the phone to the HFL or the HFL is not handling it correctly. However, signal and battery strength shows correctly on the MID.

This was not a problem in the past (either with earlier versions of iOS or earlier my earlier iPhones). I don't remember when the CID issue started but it's been a while. It's an annoying issue because I have to look at my phone to see who's calling which kind of defeats the purpose. I'd rather leave my phone in my pocket and rely on the HFL to show me the CID. This way I'm also not tempted to look at incoming text messages while I'm driving.

Is there a simple fix for this? Reset the HFL?

My understanding was that the caller number display was a function of the cell transmitter rather than the phone or HFL-- this means the MID may show a caller's number in one area, but not in another area.

This comports with my experience since getting the TL in 2005.

The HFL cannot display the CID without a connected phone because the car does not have its own cellular phone capability (the car does not connect to a network, your phone does). Therefore, the phone receives the incoming call information and sends it to the HFL via its Bluetooth connection.

I will try to test on my '05 tonight with my iPhone6. I don't drive my car enough to know that the CID works on my iPhone6....nor do I have it connected to BT the few times I do drive it.

yours connects fine?

my 05 doesn't recognize my iPhone 5S nor doesn't recognize my girlfriend's iPhone 6 or my friend's iPhone 6 Plus.

voice commands work like phone setup menu and whatnot but nothing ever found when searching for connection.

My iPhone 6 connects fine but I have had intermittent pairing issues in the past with this and earlier iPhones. I've also had an issue where my already-paired iPhone wouldn't connect to the car upon starting the car but that's usually resolved by restarting the car again.

Otherwise everything works fairly well for me with the exception of the missing CID on the MID.

Sorry...I haven't gotten back to it still. I don't drive my car on a regular basis these days since my wife uses it as the commuter car.

What I do know works on my iPhone6:
- pairs up just fine
- can receive calls just fine
- unknown if I can place calls (never tested with this phone)

I cannot remember if the CID is shown with this phone on the MID...I "think" it is...but not 100% sure.

My MID shows the calling number, but not the name. Been like this for as long as I remember.

That's how mine used to work. Now I just get "INCOMING CALL".

I finally just tested mine since the wife left my car at home today.

iPhone 6 9.3.1
- INCOMING CALL
- NO CID (just blank space on MID)

Samsung Galaxy S3
- INCOMING CALL
- CID DISPLAYED (816-xxx-xxxx)

So this appears to be iPhone related...just no idea if it was an OS update or if the 6 and up never supported it? My guess is Apple broke it in an update at some point. If...and that is a big if....I remember, I will test it on my wife's Terrain to see if my CID is displayed from my iPhone.

Thanks for verifying this. I think it was something that Apple broke with one of the iOS updates. If I remember correctly, I think it did work with my iPhone 6 when I got it about 2 years ago.

A follow-up on this: I got a new iPhoneSE with iOS 9.3.2.
Incoming calls thus far show "incoming call" and the caller's phone number in the MID, as did my prior phones.
However, some phone numbers will not show up if the calling phones are set to "private" or "do not display ID."

OP can try installing 9.3.2 to see if that resolves the absence of caller ID.
