Installing amps without loc???

ok so ive been a talking to my installer and he was telling me that it is better to connect the aftermarket amps from the stock headunit from the wires that go before the factory amp......i bought the stinger loc but hes telling me that there is no use for it ......but ive been searchin thru the forums and havent found any details about this type of instalation......

Any opinions about this install is welcome....

If you amp has low level line inputs then you don't need a LOC to convert to RCA. What kind of amps are you using? He might be right.

The pre-amp signal is fine.

You can do that, however the muting for the navigation system won't work properly (only if you have Navi). If you can live with that, go pre-amp! Make sure your amplifier has LOW LEVEL INPUTS.

Do you have experience with this yourself? I took my front signal pre-amp and the HFL and navi cut off sound when appropriate. Maybe it is a radio model thing? I have a 1TB0.

That distortion is probably coming from improperly set gains.

The navi. muting works properly in my '08 type-s with the audio signals taken before the factory amp.

Since we're on the subject -- Are you bypassing the factory amp altogether (all 5 speakers) or is the center still being run by the factory amp?

If he is using a low wattage LOC on the sub channel, then the higher power could be overwhelming the resistors. Get a LOC that can handle at least 30-40 watts.

The factory amp is sitting in a box in my garage. I'm running the center off of two bridged channels from a DC360.4 driven by the HU's center output.

I have just experimented with this. I have the stock amp and was getting distortion with the LOC so i figured let me just get rid of it and see what happens. I tapped the signal RCA cable right next to the stock sub so this happened post amp. Because of this, I now have the gains all the way down on my Alpine MRP-M500 but the awesome thing is that now i have full control to the sub from my factory, non navi, headunit.

04 w/ Navi Amp Removed from Car no Issues with HFL or Navi Voice, with sub control from factory HU. Any device that you add to the signal will add distortion.

Head Unit -->Lo Level--> Amp factory--> Hi Level--> Stinger LOC -->Lo Level--> Amp after market --> Hi level --> Speaker

vs.

Head Unit -->Lo Level--> Amp after market --> Hi Level--> Speaker

Less to go wrong, less to buy, less distortion, simpler install.

Just my .02 cents

Seems the way to go is low level out of factory head to amp low level in and then speakers. Does anyone know wire colors for output of factory head? how many channels are coming out of it ?

I installed a line driver in my setup and used the factory RTO but you can always use the RTO to trigger a relay for a 12volt turn on for the amp...
