How thick of a mounting ring for front doors

Door those with deep speakers, how thick of a mounting ring are you using?

Also, what speaker are you using?

Focals are pretty deep and dynaudio too.
Do I need to go as far as a 3/4 inch thick inch ring?

I'm using 3/4" mdf spacer with TAD more than 1/4" recessed (so very very slightly under 1/2" spacer basically) and I clear just fine. My cx62's are right at 3" deep

I'm also assuming everyone had to cut the hold bigger to drop in?

If you want to be able to get the stock back, then cut slices in the circle and bend the OE metal back instead of cutting it off. Be sure and leave the stock holes in tact.

10" midbass, no spacer. Mine are 3" deep so it's safe to say with a 3/4" spacer you could go as deep as 3.75". I doubt spacers are needed for most speakers but depending on the shape of the speaker, it might allow you to cut a smaller hole. These doors have a ton of room depth wise. I think most people run spacers just because lol.
