How is the T637?

So, far I have seen on threads that the T637 is a good phone that has very little problems with the HFL. I have not gotten the TL yet, but am searching for a phone that will be compatible. I would like the least problems, and for the most info to show up in the MID.(everyone's desires) Couple questions- (1) Does the T637 pair/connect automatically everytime you get in the car? I've heard on a tread that you have to go through the menu and reconnect it manually. (2) DO you have any problems with this phone in general, and with the HFL? If so, what are they?

Thanks, help greatly appretiated

I think T637 works great with the TL. See this thread for more info on compatibility;

And Acura page for all Acura approved phones;

I have the phone and I can tell you, this phone works great with TL's HFL. To answer your questions, yes, it never fails to pair automatically with the car, if Bluetooth is on of course. HFL also displays all info (signal strength, roaming/non-roaming status, phone number, battery strength).

The only problem I have is occasional echo during conversation, but I think this is Bluetooth related issue, because my Motorola HS820 headset also experiences the same thing occasionally. Well, besides the short battery life when Bluetooth is enabled.

Hope this helps.

I have had the T637 for as long as I've had the car .. absolutely no probs. I was just on an extended trip down the I-95 corridor from Delaware to below Tampa and back .. signal strength on the T637 was far better than on my wife's Motorola.

Enjoy!

I think that the T637 is a perfect match for the TL It pairs easily and all functions are operative. No echos or strange behavior noted. I was really surprised as to how well it worked.

Reliable?

I just got off the phone with the sales rep. from our company cellphone provider (Authorized Rogers Wireless dealer here in Canada). I was talking to him about upgrading to a bluetooth phone since my new TL arrived at the dealer today and I will be picking it up soon.

He was very negative on the Sony Ericson phones, saying that they have had a lot of breakdowns and the repair service can take forever.

It's too bad since it sounds like they are fully compatible with our HFL system.

He recommended the Motorola V551 or the Nokia 6820 - both of which I see from the forums, do not display full info. in the MID.

Probably he does not get good commission on SE phones. SE phones are the best when it comes to BT.

It is true about repairs. They take forever. But the phone does not brake. I had a t68i and now I have t637. No problems except sometimes, the upper display says phone, rather then CD info. Minor problem.

T637 is great with the TL and Cingular. Mine has a weird problem and it
took 6 weeks to get back, but I'd say get insurance. I'm very positive on
SE phone. Like another person said...he probably doesn't get a spiff
on those phones.

Yeah, it works great for me. I just got it about a month ago when I switched from my Motorola V710. The only problem I have is not being able to disconnect from the hands free when I just want to use the handset. I can't find that option. There was an option on the V710. There 's also something weird about not being able to turn off the Bluetooth when you're still standing close enough to the car(reception wise). I've tried to use the phone a couple of times when that's happened, and couldn't because I couldn't turn off the Bluetooth. Anbody help me on these?

Love the T637 had it since July. Never borke great connection with the TL. I have Cingular Service. The only thing i dont like is the small buttons so small it takes me for ever to get the # right, but since it is bluetooth I dont have to dial often.

I read on a couple treads that you just have to say "transfer", to switch from car to phone or from phone to car. Try this.

Thanks acuraTL44. I'll try this on my way home today. A stupid question but, that's a Bluetooth function of the car right, and not the phone?

Yes, its a car function .. hit the HFL for the phone and speak "transfer". It will toggle between the phone and the handsfree.

I have been using the t630 (basically the same phone) with terrific results. I have a verizon phone that is my EDC phone. I bought a SE T630 for the car and got a t-Mobile pay as you go account.
When I am going to drive a long distance i just froward my verizon phone to the T-630.
Works great.
After having hands free in the car I will never go back. It makes all the difference in the world, not to mention that it is a much safer way to talk on the phone.
If you have a TL and need a simple cost effective solution for hands free phone calls.
Get a T630 or T637 and a Pay as you go T-mobile account. You can't go wrong.

Question Question

I got a question for other T637 users: does the back cover slide off too easily on your phone? On mine it's like there's almost nothing holding it in place. Many times when taking the phone out of my pocket the cover would slide off (at least an inch).

There's a little rubber "button" right next to the camera lens that may have some function related to holding the back cover in place, but not on my phone.

Please, help! Thanks. :gheyhug:

I've had a T637 before I had a TL. Setup with TL was easy and quick. All 3 displays work in the TL and no problems with sound. The only issue is that it is a candy bar setup and once in a while when it's in my front pocket, it accidently hit a button when it's on. Would have been nice to have a clam shell version but couldn't find one in the forums back in fall 2004 that a lot of other seem to like, showed all 3 displays in the TL and worked well with a TL.

Modeler .. my back is on extremely well. I took it off once so I could see how it goes, but it was so long ago I don't even remember how I did it, but certainly no probs with it since.

Onalake .. I've locked mine and don't have that problem .. if it rings while locked it's a one button push to answer but the keypad remains locked, if I want to unlock it, it's two buttons. The HFL works correctly even if the handset is locked.

Go to Settings / Locks / Auto Keylock and turn Auto Keylock to "On"

I have never had a problem with the cover on mine and have never had to take it off for any reason. I keep my phone in a case, though, so it offers an extra measure of protection just in case. As for the rubber button, I don't know if it affects the cover or not. In fact, I'm not really sure what it's for. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this one.

The sliding battery compartment cover on the back of the phone. It's part of the body.

Go to Settings / Locks / Auto Keylock and turn Auto Keylock to "On"

or just hit "more" and # for the shortcut.

Is it just me, or do other users have the problem where the MID AND radio display will go blank and just display "Phone" for extended periods of time? Only a problem because I like to see what channel I am listening to, and who the artist is. It happens pretty frequently to me.

The behaviour of MID, when a phone is paired is pretty unpredictable, but I don't think I've experienced what you're referring to. What I don't understand is why sometimes it would display the phone screen (battery and signal meter) and would come back to this screen after a few seconds if I try to switch to Trip Computer or another screen. Other times it would start in Trip Computer and would return there right away after I place and disconnect a call.

here's an easy fix: simply hit the HFL button followed by the back button. this will recycle the MID and the NAVI display. hope this helps!

Yep, this happens almost all the time I get in the car with
the phone, but not every time. It's annoying and the
fix mentioned does the trick.

From what I can tell, this is the only real quirk with this
phone. I have an older SE phone that has bluetooth and it
did it once too. So must be a SE thing.

Is there any fix for the phone that prevents this?

There was another thread discussing the "PHONE" message a while ago. After some fairly extensive testing by someone else and some casual observation on mine, it looks like the PHONE message appears when there is an unusual message on the 637. (i.e. missed call, voice mail, text message, etc.) Any status indicator outside of the normal battery and signal strength indicators puts up this message, ostensibly to tell you to check your phone.

Brewmaster,
I think that you may be correct as to the cause--each time it has happened, i have had missed phone calls, etc.

I will try the fix as suggested above--I don't have the navi but I can still play with the buttons on the dash, and it might be a fix.

Thanks all!

As a result of the comments here I went with the SE T637 and I'm very happy with it. The only problem I have is the the Caller ID does not apear in the MID. All it displays is "Incoming Call" when the phone rings. Caller ID displays on the phone itself, just doesn't seem to be relayed to the HFL via Bluetooth.

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a setting I can tweak on the phone?
