Hey guys I recently got a tl type s and it has an isimple IPod cord and a headphone jack plug in the middle compartment. If plug in my iPod, my iPod charges and looks like it works but I can't figure out how do I get the iPod to play through the stereo. I've played with my stereo, pressed fm, am, xm, tape, cd, and aux and none of those seem to bring it up. Any ideas?

Follow the wires and check the connection to make sure a hack job didnt wire it up and did something wrong. A local auto sound shop will do this for $20-$30 if u dont want to get your hands dirty.

^ i had isimple before, check XM if nothing then rip out the carpeting next to the gas pedal and check if its connected to the radio
figured it out! after disassembling the damn thing I figured out that all I needed to do was plug the headphone jack inside the aux plug in (in the center console) Gosh this pissed me off so much...
Only thing is that I was under the impression that the isimple would have steering wheel contorls? this one just comes in through the aux

It SHOULD be compatible with the steering wheel controls unless its like a super old model, check what model it is so you can look up the specs. Glad we could point you in the right direction.

i guess it might vary depending on the isimple model you have, but the one I have all you need to connect is the ipod cable. That supplies power and also transfers the music and control. You shouldnt need the aux cable if you have the ipod charging cable.
Try this, with your ipod connected, turn on AM/FM radio first. Then press XM, and then use the tune knob to change the input to "iPOD" and then press "6" (if remember). Think of "6" as the "OK" or "enter" button. You need to do this as soon as you switch into XM mode or it wont work.
Notice when you turn the knob you can also pick Aux 1 and Aux 2. That's when you can connect something other than an ipod.
also the isimple is kind of flaky in my experience. Sometimes you may need to reseat the ipod cable (it'll charge, but music will cut in and out or control stops working).

You want to note the big yellow hightlighted section, as the previous poster basically described.
My kit also didn't come with the ISPDC11 ipod cable, so it won't charge any of the newer 30pin devices, i had to get an adapter to make it also charge. Something like this:
Amazon.com: iPod / iPhone Charging Adapter Converter - Convert 12V to 5V - Converts Old iPod Dock, iPod Alpine, Pioneer and Car Hook Ups to 5V Allowing You to Charge the New iPod and iPhones-Black: MP3 Players & Accessories
I guess I should not be lazy and just order that new cable....

installing a double din is way harder than installing an isimple, tbh. looks cleaner and factory with the isimple. That is if you have navigation.Originally Posted by darian1789
See id rather just try and convert my radio instead of going through this.

I have : am, fm, xm1, xm2, tape, CD player, and aux. any ideas?
I have the Canadian model FYI.
With the isimple I've got it charges and plays music but there's a headphone jack that plugs into the aux of the car (this is how I can get audio through the speakers) but I must have the radio set to aux
