How difficult to switch from XM to Sirius ??
How difficult to switch from XM to Sirius ??
Is it possible to get Sirius installed so that it works in the head unit and steering wheel controls like XM ?? I'm not impressed with XM programming but cannot find any information on this switch. Any informed opinions appreciated.
OK there are two ways to do it (sorta)
1) get a sirius FM mod kit and get the soundgate KNTOY1 adapter which runs the sirius through the AUX input. It would result in much clearer sound than just a straight FM mod. you still will have a seperate control box which would probably fit in the compartment above the 12V outlet
2) The sirius translator from soundgate which will run directly through the headunit. the kit will include a sirius antenna, tuner and the hardware for the hookup to the headunit and this will allow you to use the TL knobs and see the info on the radio. There is one small problem with this option....It doesn't exist yet
. it is still in R&D and every time I call soundgate they say around the end of the summer. Their concern is that there isn't enough demand for the product. So all those who would rather have sirius need to call soundgate and tell them to hurry the F up with the product because XM blows.
my question with both options is about the antenna. Can you replace the XM antenna with sirius one and get it under the cover that matches the body or am I gonna have to have another antenna on the car (likely on the trunk, where I had it on my CL)

This is one area that, dare I say it, the G35 designers were smarter, since if I'm not mistaken you can choose which service you want. Actually it may be true for all Infinitis, I don't know for sure.

NFL radio? Who the hell needs that? DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket is one thing, but radio? They don't do pregame or postgame shows either. Just the first whistle to the last. Won't sit in my garage to listen to that.

You can't go into one car that has Sirius and then another that has XM and draw any conclusions. Speaker placement, speaker quality, car acoustics and other factors make a comparison like that impossible.

NFL radio is designed for people that are going to be on the road and want to follow their favourite team because they can't watch it on the TV.

The XM and Sirius balance sheets may be close, but since XM is a subsidy of GM and is featured in a countless number of their autos, I think XM's potential far exceeds that of Sirius'.

but its true satellite radio is still in its early stages considering there are only two providers, i am certain that there will be more choices and better programming for the rest of us...i just hope us TLers will be able to enjoy those

galeforce is right...
why would they depend on each other's competition to survive? competition is what leads to business failures, but better products for the consumer. i dont see how competition is better for the companies themselves. if you are talking about forcing themselves to lower their prices/extend coverage at a loss/give better service at a loss, then competition is whats driving the companies down, not up.
im a fan of hte football, but football was meant to be enjoyed in front of a 50 inch plasma screen with sourround sound systems and food. and while the TL may have one of those and 6.25% of another, i would never bring food into my TL and thus never have the complete experience.

No.
For example, I buy $100 worth of XM and $100 worth of Sirius. I'm pretty sure satellite radio as an industry is a winner, but I'm not savvy or insider enough to know which of these horses will win the race.
Three years from now, Sirius is on the verge of bankruptcy. My stock in that company is virtually worthless. XM, however, has done very well. The stock has risen to $400. A quadrupling of value is very common in today's market, even yesterday's market, over that time period for a company that does really well.
So now I have XM stock worth $400. I invested $200. I've doubled my money in three years. An excellent return.
Any questions?

neither company is going anywhere for the simple reason that the FCC has mandated that hardware must work with either provider. I'm not sure when this is going to happen but it within a couple year timeframe. kinda like what happened with cable boxes.
Price wise, Sirius is now trying to compete with XM, but they're not there just yet.
However, you can pay them $500 for a lifetime one-shot deal.

I have used both XM in the TL and sirius in hertz rental cars. The club or dance music on the sirius stations is way better the XM channel 80-83.
That is the only thing I don't like about XM.
Most of you probably don't give a sh*t about the dance club stations however.
The bottom line is, there is a ton of stations to choose from on XM, something has to make you happy, otherwise you are hopelessly depressed or demand perfection.

sirius does not have even half the subscriber base of xm which is why its stock is low priced and diluted to boot. xm does not need sirius to survive either. perhaps some reading of the financial papers such as the wall street journal would curb inaccurates statements like the above post.
i am in the dance music business. i live in the metropolitan nyc area. sirius is NYc based where as Xm is based out of DC. i do alot of work in nyc and would rather hear the nyc dj'ais playing rather than dc dj's. thats the real why i prefer the sirius. and for the sports too

um, not all the programming comes from DC
XM has programming from all over the place...
digitil B,
Im glad somebody reads up besides me. Like you said you just have to read a little. Sirius spent some 30 mil a year for nfl rights and only have some 480k subscribers vs. xm's 2.1 million. I dont need to type any more if you want to see who is who in satelite radion read this xm vs. sirius

XM purchasing Sirius . . .
My colleague's husband works at Delphi as a regional sales manager of XM. Interestingly, my colleague purchased for him for last Christmas, a Sirius radio. I was talking with him about this and if he was being mocked at work for it. He then told me that Delphi has bought 30% of Sirius with ultimate plans to merge.
Just thought I'd share.

Any updates
So with the news out this morning that Howard Stern is moving to sirius in Jan of 2006 my guess is that there will be folks, like me, who will want to switch from XM.
Any updates as to whether or not this can be done?
