HFL - Usually Gets Digit Dial Incorrect

I have a 04 TL but rarely use the Bluetooth capability because the system never seems to understand the telephone numbers I'm asking it to dial. I try speaking clearly, loudly, or saying the number is groups but nothing seems to work. I'm very fustrated because I can't take advantage of all the bells and whistles. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Same problem.

Read the manual.

Point the air vents down.

If all that doesn't work.

Get into "program mode" and change the audio level for the mic. This solved my problem using the infamous ctrl-alt-delete solution.

If I try speaking too deliberately, it screws up. If I speak as if I'm telling a passenger the number, it works fine. Most of my calls, though, a made from address book entries and this tends to be more accurate than speaking the actual phone number.

You need to have a good balance of speed and pronunciation. Speak with a normal tone with a slight pronunciation of the word/number, and say 0 as "zero" not "O".

It may be best to say one section at a time. Such as if the number is (123)456-7890. First say "123". If that is right go to the next section, "456". If it happens to recognize this section of numbers wrong, press the back button and you will just have to repeat the second set of numbers.

Hopefully these tips may help.

Acura won't change it to manually enter the numbers, hence the name "hands free link". They just need to improve the voice recognition so it works as good as the navi. The navi is always 100% correct for me.

addition to one section at a time, try to break up number differently.

For example, when I want "*67-123-4567", system never understands star 67. I have to break it like *6, 712, 345, 67

Something like 1-800-123-4567 too. Try 180,012,345,67

I NEVER use my TL to make calls anymore. Just got too fed up with it not understanding me. Good to know the Navigation system apperently works better. I can work the Onstar in my Mom's car. I spent almost $300 on a bluetooth phone too. I think it has been just over a year since I tried to place a call with HFL.

I also find the speakerphone quality on incoming calls to be great sometimes and crap others regardless of signal strength. Bluetooth has been a bit of a let down for me. It still nice to have incoming calls goto the speaker phone.

If there is a way to turn up the microphone or adjust it I would be willing to give it one last try though.

I only spent $50 (after rebates) on the Motorola e815 and it is a little disappointing. The speaker on the TL is great for listening to your caller. It's a minor pain that I have to point my voice/mouth to the mic in the TL to get the caller to hear me ok -- sometimes to the point of stretching my head to get closer to the mic. This is still mildly acceptable.

Interestingly enough, the voice recognition system (e.g., for climate control, etc.) can understand me better/faster if I keep my head aimed straight ahead and not talking toward the mic. I.e., when I say a command, it will respond faster that way.

I keep bluetooth enabled on the e815 so I can go into/out of the car and the phone will automatically sync up .

However, I noticed that I went into a coffee shop and the phone was still sync'ed up because I was still close to the car and inside the 30min time that bluetooth stays on in the car.
