HFL Locked

I just bought an 06 TL. When I it the voice command button the voice tells me, "The system is locked, what is the 4 digit passcode?" I don't have it since I just bought the car. I read somewhere that it can be cleared of everything but I am unsure how this is done. Anyone know?

If you have the radio code then you can unhook the battery and jump the 2 cables together for 15 minutes to bleed the capacitors down. That might do it.

make sure you have the navi code too before you do that. I think you may have to go to your dealer to have them replace it.

Im gonna try disconnecting the battery tonight. I don't think that will work. If it doesn't, then I guess I'll take it to the dealer. This sucks! It has been the only downside to the car. Other than this, I love it.

To clear the system, do this (note—"Say" means "Press and release the Talk button and then speak after the beep"):

1. Say "System."
2. HFL should say "System options are setup and clear."
3. Say "Clear."
4. HFL should say "This process will clear all paired phones, clear all entries in the phonebook, and clear the passcode. Is this what you would like to do?"
5. Say "Yes."
6. HFL should say "Preparing to clear all paired phones, all phonebook entries, and the passcode. This may take up to two minutes to complete."
7. Say "OK."
8. Wait a while and then the HFL should say "The system has been cleared. Returning to the main menu."

Note that I have NO idea whether you can do this if you do not know the HFL passcode, but it's worth a try.

You don't say where you bought your TL. If you know who the prior owner is or if you have his contact information, the easiest thing to do might be to give him a polite call to ask what the passcode is—explain to him that you cannot use the HFL feature and that you will use his passcode solely to unlock the system and that you will then clear the system of all info so that none of his personal data will remain. If I sold or traded in my TL and a future owner called me I'd be willing to give him that info (except that I don't use a passcode on the HFL, so I wouldn't be getting any such call).

If you got it from an Acura dealer call them and get them to go it.

Contact your nearest Acura Dealer, tell them what is going on and find out exactly what you need to do. I changed the battery in my TL right after buying it without any codes...My local dealer was cool, I got the SN off of the Navi unit in the trunk and faxed them the purchase agreement and they told me the code. I think with the code, you can get to where you need to be...Good luck.

Acura can't provide him with the HFL code. The HFL code is not like the Navi or radio code where it's set by the factory. This code is set by the user, much like the PIN for the "Go Home" feature on the Navi.

OK, just got back from the dealer. They reset it for me. I asked them if there was a way for me to do it. The guy smiled and said, "why are you trying to take my job?" I laughed and said, "thanks again!" Then left.
