HFL issue with new navigation DVD...
Hi All,
I recently ordered the 2010 Orange DVD Map Update v3.90. I installed the new DVD into my navigation.
However, ever since I installed the updated DVD, my HFL bluetooth connection is very spotty. In the three years I've owned my TL, I never had a problem with my HFL bluetooth TL connecting to my Blackberry Curve 8330. However, ever since this last DVD update, my bluetooth only connects sporadically.
Has anyone ever noticed this issue and were you able to resolve it in any way?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
patient77

So after some research on the issue in the forum, I checked the menu and my menu says "booting up" like so many others have discovered with their HFL systems. Most seem to be a problem with the 2004 TL's, even though mine is a 2006.
Sporadically, my phone will pair up with the HFL, but during a call or five minutes into a drive, it would disconnect. Pairing the phone is a hit or miss, the HFL sees my phone 1 out of 6 tries or so.
The question I have for those more knowledgable. Do you think my upgrading the navigation DVD could have screwed up my HFL system? Or was it just a coincidence that this problem with my HFL occurred when I upgraded the DVD? Basically, are the two systems separate, navigation and HFL, or are they integrated.
Any insight for fellow members is appreciated. What sucks is that my TL JUST recently went out of warranty, like within the last two months. The timing sucks.
Thanks.

a easy way to find out if it's the new dvd's fault would be to stick your old dvd in, see if it pairs and you can call people like you used to. If it does, well then, you're problem is with the dvd and you can probably return that dvd to Acura since I think a working HFL is more important than slightly updated roads unless you live in a new city.
But from my recollection, I think when I went to test drive 3rd gen TL's, if you remove the DVD, the HFL doesn't work.
Please post what happens, I am also thinking of purchasing the 2010 map and have a '06 TL.

I tried putting in my old DVD and no dice, still the same HFL problem. However, I just slid the old DVD into the reader, as opposed to doing the MAP/CANCEL/GUIDE restart that I believe you are supposed to do to revert back to the older DVD.
Will try it tomorrow and see if reverting to the old DVD resolves the issue, but I am pretty skeptical.
Thanks for the response.

Sorry, been out of town the last few days.
So I do believe the new DVD screwed up my HFL somehow. It would have been too big of a coincidence that my HFL stopped working the day I upgraded my DVD. I spoke to the Acura service technician and he did say they were integrated.
With that said, I have a good relationship with my Acura service guy, as I have been going to the same dealership since buying the car new. They also give me lifetime oil changes.
My car was out of warranty by about 5k miles. Nonetheless, they did all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this forum, dconnecting the battery, doing the diagnostic tests, etc. I told them I tried it but I guess they had to do it themselves. Finally, after waiting two hours, they decided I had a defective HFL unit.
They gave me a new one despite me being out of warranty. I guess it goes to show that having a good relationship with your service guy can go a long way.
Long story short, they replaced my HFL unit and I haven't had any problems since. A good end to a pain in the ass problem.

I also have a 2006 and now have bluetooth issues after upgrading to the 2010 Orange DVD. My Tour pairs fine and incoming calls work fine. When I say "call home (or anything in the phone book)", it says "phone is in use" - I have to manually dial from the phone. When I have placed a call from the handset, the steering wheel buttons do not work to hang up the call (have to do it from the phone).
Although it has fixed one problem: with my stock DVD, when I placed a call from the handset, 95% of the time the bluetooth would not pickup the phone (I had to transfer the call to bluetooth). With the new DVD, so far 100% of the calls have automatically transferred to bluetooth.
