The HFL seems to be having an issue where it is not connecting to my phone on start up. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. If it has not connected at start up it also cannot find the phone in discovery mode. I am assuming the HFL module is the culprit. Anyone else have this issue? resolution? No real troubleshooting procedure that I can find. Ideas?

 

It's failing. Eventually it just won't do anything at all.

The fault tree is pretty simple here because every last one of these units will fail unless it was kept in climate controlled storage.

 

I unplugged the HFL installed a little bluetooth/aux/usb integrator box from GROM audio and haven't looked back. Honestly the hardest part is keeping track of which screws go where when you pull the dash apart to get to the back of the center console.

 

I think I will bake it and see what happens.

 

this may buy you some time. Could be a few days, could be a few months, but it's not really a fix.

 

Mine is back to working now. I have been in contact with Jesse at Phantom Audio and they will reflow and make repairs to the HFL for a very reasonable amount. I am waiting now to see if it starts to fail again and then I will send it off.

 

I replaced my entire HFL unit and the whole system works better than new. Much better sound and it no longer drains my battery.

 

I gave up and went with a BT45-HON3 for less than the cost of a new OEM HFL unit and got Bluetooth audio from my smartphone to boot. Works great!

My 2007 TL just started doing the same thing. I ran the diagnostic by navigating to HFL, then hold End Call button down for 5-10 seconds. The first few times it as "booting" so it did not work, but then it connected, ran the diagnostic and said "working fine". So, it must be intermittently failing. Kind of makes me wonder what good the diagnostic is but maybe its has other messages I have just not been able to get to.
