Help with sub/amp install?

Hey guys, new to the board. Current car is '05 TL with navi

I was wanting to replace the factory sub and amp while having the ability to control the sub through the navi screen.

I've been reading a lot of posts and read the few DIY's but I'm still a little confused since they're different from each other. I drew this diagram on ps to show my understanding of whats going on. I just wanted to know if I have the general idea right. I still have a few questions also

I've been told I need an LOC depending on the amp i'm getting?

1. RCA wires from the aftermarket amp go into the LOC right? Where does the LOC go? I’m confused on what connects to it.

2. What do I need to do with the wires going to the old amplifier in the passenger kick panel? (what wires should I discard and which do I need?)

3. Where does the remote lead connect to? I know that for aftermarket deck's, that's where it connects to.. but what about for my stock h/u?

4. How many feet of speaker wire do I need?

any help is greatly appreciated!

Connect your LOC to the subwoofer wire on the trunk, or you could skip the LOC and just wire the speaker wires into some RCAs or even use high level inputs if your amp has some. Don't wire this from the kick panel, it is more work than necessary. You can still control the sub from the deck if you use the stock sub wires to connect.

The positive and ground is right.

You are missing the remote turn on in your diagram - use an add-a-fuse on fuse $32 to turn the amp on.

You don't need anything from the green speaker wires.

You only need enough speaker wire to get from the amp to the sub.

Whether or not you use a LOC, high level or direct wired input signal depends on your amp. If you post up what you have in mind, then people can add more. I just wired my sub output into some RCAs and skipped the LOC. LOCs will alter frequency.

hey thanks for the reply; i just talked to a crutchfield rep and he said if I do use a LOC, i'm gonna need additional speaker wire to go from the headunit to the LOC.

but you're saying i can just connect the LOC to the subwoofer wire in the trunk?

He basically told me:
Headunit speaker wire (about 8 feet) > LOC > RCA CABLES >AMP > SPEAKER WIRE (1-2 feet) > SUB

or what is your connection path?

You should be able to grab the speaker wires from the sub it self to connect the LOC. The Head unit speaker wires are the same wires. They are just ran to the Factory AMP first then to the SUB.

If you take the rear sub out there are two wires connecting the sub , connect them to the LOC. Then hook up the RCA's up to the amp . I just hooked mine up like three days ago this way . The best part is you can control the sub from the nav screen .

Just tap the wires at the factory sub in the trunk for a simple install. It'll be crossed already at like 80 or something, but it's easy to do for most people.

Pull down the top trunk linear and you'll see the stock sub harness. Pull it out and splice into that. You're done. No need to disconnect anything from the factory amp.
