Help remove Center Speaker

I got really sick of the rattle from the center speaker. so I read the fixes on 3g garage, and decided to do it myself. for some reason i am unable to get the speaker removed.

I was able to get the right side of the speaker loose, but for some reason unable to get the Left (driverside) middle clip to come out.

I don't want to break anything because I could see the grill bending when I was trying to take it out, so I didn't bother with it anymore. But is there a special way of taking the speaker out without breaking anything?

thanks for reading and any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Fought this battle.... And wasted my time... lol... My best advice is cut the center speaker wire, run that channel to an amp and sub. You will find yourself much happier in the long run. That center speaker is a free-air sub anyway. It's garbage. GARBAGE!! lol... TRUST ME!!!! amp & sub... This route will save you hours of frustration....

I think the OP is talking about the front center channel speaker.

Op-I used a small flat head and a towel. The towel is used to keep the flathead screwdriver from marring the dash(towel used as leverage point for screwdriver). It may have some resistance on one side, but from what I have read(and when I fixed mine) it somes out relatively easy. Hope this helps.

This post is not really helping the person at all. He/she has a rattle and can't get the grill off. In order to even do what you have suggested (cutting the wire) the OP would actually have to take off the grill which they are having a problem doing. Also the center channel is not the sub. The sub is located in the rear shelf. The center channel is an actual speaker that can rattle and can be upgraded as many people on here have done.

To the OP, it is possible to get this grill off. It does take some patience and it will look like it is going to bend and break at times. Just use a very flat screwdriver to pry the clips loose.

I used a feeler gauge on the thicker side. They are great for getting under those grills on most Honda/Acura cars, tweeters too. The have good flex and are wide enough to spread the load over a larger area of the dashboard material. Even so the center channel grill is a tough one. I actually ended up having some of the metal clips pop off and get lost forever in the dash.

I ended up getting a new grille at the dealer since I was upgrading the CC driver and needed to hack the underside of the grille anyway. The new one was pretty cheap and came with the clips attached.

Thank you all for the help.

I was able to finally get the front center grill/speaker unit out. I guess the key to it is as SLpr04UA6 says, using a rolled up towel as a leverage.

I first popped the grill out from the driver side, than using the same method of towel as leverage, I popped the grill out on the passenger side.

As far as solving the rattling, I put foam tape down there and it didn't work. It would initially stay quiet for a short while, but than as the car heated up and the dash was exposed to the direct sunlight, the rattle returned.

So I decided to give it another shot, as mentioned in another post, the plastic connector to the speaker definitely rattles, so I used electrical tape and wrapped it really well. Again, went for a prolonged test drive. Initially the rattle disappeared, but as the dash heated up driving in the direct sunlight, the rattle was back.

I am almost thinking it is the metal clips on the plastic grill extensions that are clunking against metal and causing the rattle/buzzing sound.

I guess I'll take another shot at it tomorrow...
