Help on JL system install
I just picked up a JL 10w7 and JL 500/1 amp and decided to install it myself. This is my first time doing any sort of stereo install on ay car so im a newbie at it.
I ran the power wire from the battery to the trunk and also attached the ground. My questions are:
1) From what im aware of I dont need a LOC since the 500/1 has a signal sensing start up so I dont need a turn on lead?
2) I also cant get my hands on a line to RCA cable so I decided to chop one end of the RCA cable off and connect that to the sub. Will this be sufficient enough or am I doing a chop job?
3) Other then that am I missing anything?
Thanks in advance.

I'm a little confused about where you're going, so I'll try to help you out a bit.
1. The LOC has nothing to do with the turn on lead. Unless you're tapping into the signal between the OEM HU and amp, you DO need an LOC. You should grab the sub signal at the OEM sub...attach some speaker wires to the oem sub signal lines, and then run those lines to your LOC. From the LOC you will run a pair of RCA cables to the inputs of your amp.
As for the turn-on leads, if your amp turns on with the signal (that comes from the LOC), then you shouldn't need to run one.
2. I'm not quite sure what you're doing with the spliced RCA cable, unless you're grabbing the signal between the OEM HU and OEM amp.
Make sure you read some tutorials on amp gain setting as well. A DMM is your friend. Too much gain, or use of bass boost is your enemy.
Let us know if you need further clarification.
