Help, have nyone installed aftermarket head unit in 3rd gen TL?

I was wondering if anyone installed an aftermarket head unit in our 3rd gen TL. If they have, where can I get the Harness? It's going to be into the 04-06 TL.

There are a few people that have done so, but most have fabricated their own mounting kit. As for the harness, have you tried searching google? You might also want to look at harnesses for the Accord as well since the TL does share parts with it. Lastly, you can try PM'ing the members that have aftermarket headunits. You can find them with a search here.

thanx datmrman, I have figure out the wire schematic for the 07 and 04-06 head unit and navigation screen. the navi screen have all the same wires. the head unit of 07 type-S have the extra aux. wire set. and the ANC wire sets that we don't need in our car. Otherwise, all of the wires are there. the problem is with the connector head. the 2 options i have are 1. pull the wires out of the socket and re-pin all the wires into the new connector. or 2. get an aftermarket harness and match the wires up and it'll be click and go. personally, I prefer the 2nd option. the dealer is going to charge me 5 hrs. of labor for re-pinning the wires into the connectors.

By the way, do you have detailed instruction on removing the radio head unit. I've got as far as removing the silver trim strips and the arm rest console. but after that, I have no idea how to remove the shifter to get to the head unit plus the top of the head unit (that clock temp. display). if i can remove the head unit myself, it'll be easier to reconnect head unit and save lot O' $$$$$$. thanx again for helping me!!!

shifter stays where it is...from the armrest console, there should be four screws holding the cupholder assembly in place to the bezel surrounding the shifter. Remove those, as well as the plugs for the seat warmer controls. As you reach the bezel surrounding the shifter, pry the plastic silver surround from around the shifter, it will pop out easily, as will the shiny trim under the silver trim piece. Once there, you should see two tabs interlocking the plastic bezel to the sides of the two storage compartments, that used to be covered by the aluminum trim strips you already removed. You should be able to get these loose one at a time, by pulling the surrounding dashboard plastic away toward the side (slight bending necessary here, won't damage anything), then remove the bezel. You may have to set the e-brake, then stick your key in the shifter lock and put the car in neutral to get the shift lever out of the way. Also, there are various and assorted screws to remove, all located to the sides. IIRC, the radio assembly also has tabs to remove.

As for removal of the radio, you may have to loosen or remove the vent /clock cover housing the two vets above the radio. Pry/Pull it straight out, be forceful, but careful. I don't believe there are any screws holding this in place.

thanx for the awesome write up... I'll see if I can get to the head unit tomorrow... I've just ordered some harness connector online. From what I gathered, there are only 4 speaker wires on most harness. the center speaker (the one that HFL uses) is missing. I guess i'll have to add an extra wire for that speaker to work. I'll keep everyone posted

In my '06, the center speaker is NOT used by the HFL...L and R mid and tweet are. I know, because with the L and R speakers replaced, the HFL was inaudible.

...you could, however, switch the left speaker output of the stock amp with the center speaker, and only use for HFL...don't know it the TL has echo cancellation based on TOA, however.

I C.... well, i'm just waiting for the antenna connector and audio connector to arrive. After that, I'm gonna take apart the console and the head unit. I'll be sure to keep you upated on the progress.... I got all the wires mapped out and only 3 wires from the HFL on our head unit is not accounted for in the 07 adapter. but I think it's the 3 wires for the "telm" connector. on a similar note, is there any special tools I need to remove the top display unit above the vent?

I also have a different post on the head units and the pin schematic. Maybe you can take a look....

No special tools...although a panel popper covered with a cloth comes in handy on those aluminum trim pieces. Oh, and the vent/clock piece is stressed in there.

...just meant that the piece is difficult to remove without thinking you're going to break it...pull or pry it straight out.

Just a clarification to the above, about removal of the clock/vent piece...you may not have to remove the pieces above the radio to get the radio out (but I seem to recall a reason to do so, may make it easier or expose an otherwise difficult set of bolts on the radio mount)...if you do, then you have the lcd and ac control panel below that to contend with as well, but it's pretty self-explanatory.

I'm going to revive this thread because quite honestly, if you get this to work, you're very close to getting NavTraffic in there too.

Well.... the wiring is not a problem now.... it's the navi drive and the HFL/XM module.... these 2 dame things cost more than an arm and a leg:P the HU goes in and works fine.... but the problem is the old navi drive doesn't have the right navi disc and thus won't load the correct bin for the HU and ended up with the "EXTENSION" message when you insert any form of CD/DVD disc into the DVD changer.... I was hoping to use 06 MDX navi drive to test it out... but those dame thing are also hard to come by.... if anyone have the drive I won't mind testing it out in my car.... the 06 MDX navi drive have the Zaget resturant rating and backup camera plug and doesn't need the new HFL/XM module... that is why I've decided to test out this drive.... However, I don't know if this drive will load the right bin to make the new 07 TL HU to work.... but for sure the 07 TL's HU need the new navi drive and the HFL/XM module to work perfectly.... as for the navi traffic, if you get the new HFL/XM module, this function is included.... and that is why I'm waiting on parts and modding the outside of my car in the mean time....

p.s. the 07 HU have separate wires for the auxillary jack also for the MP3 players and if you have the mic. for the ANS... it'll also have the Active Noise Cancellation function... a very cool feature, when you speed up or the cabin gets louder, the music will also increase volume....

on a different note, the body side moding i have on my car... well, after I clean it and wax it (just the BSM) that thing blended in with my car... I guess the reason why it looked so odd b4 it's because of the dirt that made it look out of place.....
