Help with BT-45 HON3 Installation

Despite following all the diagrams, I can't it to work properly. The BT Music works, but I can't make a call using the steering wheel buttons. The radio is also ill as the stations sound muffled. When I disable BT on my phone, this thing still thinks I'm somewhat connected and my radio controls are all messed up. Furthermore, the XM sound is muffled and at low volume. Naturally, I had Paul do this on a Saturday so I can't call USA SPec until Monday.

I need to hold the channel + / - buttons for the BT-45 HON3 to register. Pressing them does nothing. I very rarely make calls by politely asking the google assistant.

What setup you have? '07/08 nav? USA spec website doesn't list any options for 07-08 nav models.

An '04 TL with an '07/8 Navigation system. They in fact do, the BT-45 ACU. USASpec recommended the HON3 for my setup.

I had a few issues with mine. Are your dip switches set correctly? If I recall the instructions weren't clear and I think I had them backwards. Once I fixed that it worked well.

They're set per the instructions. BTW. my steering wheel phone buttons don't work either.

Talked with Victor from USASpec tech support today. Apparently, the BT-45 HON3 DIP switches have to all be in the DOWN position contrary to the manual. This applies to those of us '04/5/6 owners who've done the '07/8 Navigation conversion. And I didn't lose the XM1 channel settings, another advantage of doing the Nav conversion. Works great now!

Only you lose the call buttons on the steering wheel and have to dial out and answer an incoming call from your phone, then the BT takes over for handsfree speaking. You have to disable the Handsfree TM Bluetooth on your phone connection though.

So it's a 07-08 nav but on a 04-06 tl? With this setup, which XM unit are you using? Is it the earlier plug or or bigger 97-08 plug? I have both units, so can tinker with the settings for you.

Yes, it is an '04 with a '07/8 DVD drive and display. The XM unit is '04/5/6. How would I plug in an '07/8 XM unit as it's my understanding they're not plug compatible? Is there an adapter available? I really don't like the idea of fiddling around with plugs and wires.

Did you also update the HFL in the overhead bin? Try running a diagnostics from the navigation, in should give you a rundown of what's not being picked up by the system. I'm 99% sure that you can convert to the newer XM with live traffic, I'm just not sure how difficult it is. I'm sure you would need a new antenna, and maybe a harness for the the XM. Both could be had for cheap at a salvage yard.

I'm sure I can get the Nav traffic, but I'm not going to fiddle with harnesses and plugs. The '07/8 HFL and '07/8 XM units are not plug-compatible, so unless someone has pre-wired adapter plugs for these like the dash display, I'm gonna pass at least for now. Thanks, but I've done and spent enough, and am good to go. I'm happy enough to have my maps updated to 2021 and a clock calendar that works!
