HELP 3G TL radio/amp issue
HELP 3G TL radio/amp issue
I know its been discussed a million and 1 times but AFTER searching nearly a week I haven't found the answer I'm looking for can someone shed some light for me?
Car: 2005 TL with navi
Audio related upgrades/mods (bought car with all listed installed): DVD in rear arm rest with switch on dash, image dynamics 6.5's in front, some sort of tweeters on dash, image dynamics 12" carbon fiber sub, image dynamics amp(no idea model or watt), ReQ LOC, Braille battery in trunk with a trip box, assuming rear deck is stock haven't removed seat to check, big as$ fuse box under hood I think it has 2 100amp fuses.
Issues: (sorry so long)bought the car with music playing it sounded crappy with sub and stock sub playing so I tripped the box to turn off the amp. Later I realized the front speakers didn't work. Using the rule of thumb "what changed" I thought about the trip box reset and everything came back on problem fixed.
Decided to investigate the system further b/c I had no idea what was in it other than a million huge speaker wires everywhere. Took driver door panel off to look at speaker it was barely mounted, oem plastic speaker thing removed and a thick piece of particle board behind speaker took it off wiring was taped around speaker terminals fixed that the right way and went to put speaker back big no no but I had the radio on and the screws that held mount to door and the screws to hold speakers to mount where the same instead of separate to prevent ground out well the screw arched and before I had time to move it the front speakers went out along with tweeters and sub.
Checked all fuses, wires etc. a glass fuse was wired into the ReQ and another tapped into the under dash fuse panel. Replaced the under dash fuse but odd thing was the fuse came off a hot wire to the green plug just over the relays but didnt connect to anything just hung there. Speakers won't work so I started pulling kick panels and chasing wires decided to go back to stock amp with doors and just run sub off aftermarket amp.
Aftermarket amp is wired to the Braille battery in rear and to trip box then to under hood; 2 sets of RCA from amp to ReQ ground to wheel well and remote to ReQ, speaker wire fronts to door speakers and rear to aftermarket sub
ReQ is wired to amp yel to hot, blue to remote, ground to ground, 3 sets if wires brown/white/gray wired to 3 sets of oversized speaker wire to stock amp at pass kick panel
To under dash fuse panel the GRN/PUR wires clipped from fuse box and wired to speaker wire running from amp another set of speaker wire running along side them are just taped over
Pass kick panel has 3 sets of speaker wire that run from ReQ are tapped to front R and L and sub wires from output of stock amp. 2 sets of speaker wires running along side them one was tapped into tweeters and the other taped over.
I've tried reconnecting all oem wires to original place and removing all aftermarket wiring still no fronts. Tapped sub wires from stock amp output and straight to sub and sub works even thru aftermarket amp sub wires with RCA wires in to the jacks from amp and sub to speaker inputs on amp and still works.
After 2 days of camping out in trunk can get the fronts to work.
I know this: stock amp input harness has aftermarket wire ends that have been clipped off and taped over on the front R and L and sub wires / stock amp output harness has the same. Pass side tweeter has a set of wires from them to right front channel but they have been pulled out from tweeter and drive side has no wires. If I hard wire a speaker directly from output at stock amps rear channels the speaker plays.
SO.... Is my stock amps front channels burnt out? Stock HU front channels shot? Something I missed? Will running front and rear speakers off rear channels from stock amp until issues are fixed going to cause further damage?
I want to run 2ohm replacement front speakers that will play thru stock amp, keep rear deck on stock amp, disconnect stock sub and tap into harness to run aftermarket 12" sub and aftermarket amp. May run the fronts to aftermarket amp not sure yet. Simple and clean any helpful advice and please no "search button" responses I've been doing that for days now.
