Headphone Jack spliced from XM module in trunk
Headphone Jack spliced from XM module in trunk
Hello I am looking for any pictures of how to install a 3.5mm headphone jack in the center console by splicing the wires coming from the xm module in the trunk on an 06 acura tl, I saw a post in the garage but cannot see the pictures and I am in need of a wiring diagram to complete the project.
I remember discussion of that with schematics years ago. I can't seem to find the post I want but this one should get you going. This guy's solution may be more complex than you want but the diagram is there and he identifies the wires in the trunk you need to find.

I have to agree with Elegant TYPE S that it seems like a PITA compared to some unit you could buy and plug into the HU.
BTW - using Google for a search targete to Acurazine often works better than the site's own search. Try entering this (without the quotes) into Google "site:tl.acurazine.com 3g xm auxiliary trunk" and you will see the stuff I saw to pick from. I'm NOT scolding that you didn't search... just helping out by showing what often works better.

I tried to follow that diagram about a year ago, but with the use of relays i found it to be quite difficult. So instead of using relays I just solely used an RCA to aux input cord. You cut the red and white ends of the RCA cord to reveal the positives and negatives for both the left and right. Then you simply attach those to the corresponding wire of the xm which are:
White-Right +
Black-Right -
Red-Left +
Green-Left -
This obviously makes the xm unable to use, but I never used it anyways. Once i attached the RCA to the xm i ran the wire up to my middle console where i attached an old bluetooth adapter from my old truck. If you do this method just make sure to get a ground loop isolator. It is a difficult approach for an aux input and if I was to do it again I would just of got iSimple personally.

I just did mine yesterday, much easier than it sounds. Used speaker wire $10, 3.5 stereo jack $3.49 both from radio shack. Just follow the wiring listed above. Twist two ends together for jack ground from the l/r grounds, then solder then r/l + to the jack run the wire back to the Xm wiring. Placed jack in center console looks factory. A 3.5 stereo line driver/ground loop isolator is good idea tho, $12 on Amazon. Sounds pretty good too.

I just installed an aux input with a switch just in case I activate xm sometime in the future. It was a very simple install and I have done the same on the cd changer of my 2 lexus I had previously. I tapped into the wires behind the radio and used cat 5 cable which had the right amount of wires and is shielded.
I would post pictures right now but photobucket is down for maintenance its as easy as can be and sounds great.

The un-sheilded wire doesn't really hurt much. Its a short run not very close to any power wire. I have more ground loop from the radio itself before I did this. Cat5 would be cool, probably easier to run because of its size. Xm box is on the pass side of the trunk with 3 10mm bolts you will see as you pull back inside covering.
