Headlight Timer
Hi peoples .
My TL is an '07 non Navi and I've got a piddly question that is bothering me never-the-less. I have gone into my Keyless Entry settings to set the rolling door lock feature and the other functions therein. Everything seems to work fine except the Auto Off Headlight Timer feature. I can set it for 15,30 or 60 secs and press the Sel button. The problem is that it does not work when you are using the headlights in the "Auto" position. It WILL work in the regular "headlights on" position , but if you have the lights on in the "Auto" mode , they turn off as soon as you turn the key to the "Off" - no matter what time you have set in the display.
The owners' manual states that the Auto Off timer should work when the Headlights are set in the "Auto" mode also. The Dealer's service guy told me that he tried several other '07 TL's and the Headlight Timer did not work when the lights were set to "Auto" either. My salesman said the same thing.
When I called Acura customer service , they said that it should work in "Auto" setting. Can anyone else with an '07 shed any light on this subject??
Thanks muchly....

Sounds like a TSB should be in the works (eventually) for this one.
granted, it's a very minor thing , but hey, the timer should work in both modes -
just like the manual says !
Thanks for your response.
Problem? That's how it works - in "auto" the delay off timer is dis-engaged.
I wouldn't call it a "problem" if they all do it. My does, his does, all the ones at the lot did. The only "problem" seems to be that the owners manual is wrong.
But Acura Client Service says it "should" work in auto? You think they get their info from actually trying it on the car or looking it up in the manual?

Fieryone, did you ever get this fixed on your TL?

manual is apparently incorrect. That's as far as I've gotten with this one.
I want to bring this thread back to life since I was going to ask the exact same question.
I have tried to set the Headlight auto off timer to 15 seconds and my lights don't seem to turn off automatically. I've tried to leave it in the auto setting and they don't. I then tried to leave it in the on position and if I remember correctly, they just stayed on.
So, how exactly do you get your lights to stay on for the 15 seconds? Do I leave the switch to on? or auto?

MustBe TL,
Maybe you've figured this out by now...I'm late in responding to your post.
The Headlight Timer settings ( 15,30,45,or 60 secs.) only affect headlight opreation when the lighting switch is set to "on". In "auto", the lights will always go off when you turn off the ignition. Again, this is contradictory to what the Owners Manual says...but that's the way it works. The guy I talked to at Acura customer service actually went out and tried this on a couple of vehicles (TL's),
then called me back and verified that the "Timer" will not function in the Headlights "auto" position.
Sooo...if the lights are set to "on" then you should be able to set your lights to
time themselves off by selecting one of the timer settings. then pressing the "middle" button to set the selection.
The neat thing about this is that when you return to the car , and press the "unlock" on the remote , the headlights (and allother running lights) come
back on . This can make it easier to find your car , say, when you come out from a concert or movie , and the parking lot is large and jammed.
Good Luck...!

I just leave my headlights on. I never use auto. That way...the timer works as "designed." LOL. Also, I just like riding around in the daytime with my HIDs on...for no reason at all. Its just something I like to do so it works out better for me that way.
Thanks for the follow up. I eventually got it figured out. For some reason I don't like leaving the switch to the "ON" position. Maybe it is just because the car's features are making me more and more lazy
jk
A good example of this laziness is when I drive my girl's Honda Accord I forget that I have to turn the key and hold it
And reversing without a rear camera is getting harder and harder, ha ha!!! I love the features in the TL!

Apparently, honda's ass-backwards thinking forgot or couldn't figure out how to set the headlights to go off with the predetermined settings when headlights were in auto. Either that or they don't proof read their manual. Infiniti figured it out years ago, but honda can't.
