Having issues with surround sound through aux input in '08 TL-S

I've had the car a few months now and have been using the official Acura aux cable the previous owner included with the car. I've noticed lately though, that the sound is rarely coming evenly from all the speakers. Depending on how I turn the auxiliary cable jack in my phone, music will play solely from the one left most speaker, or from the two right most speakers, but almost never consistently from all of the speakers. I've managed to get the full surround to work a few times and wow, what a difference in sound quality it made! The auxiliary cable looks to be in great shape, my phone is nearly brand new, and I've made sure the cable is securely plugged in on both ends. It just makes no sense that how the auxiliary jack is turned while plugged into my phone could affect which car speakers the music plays from.

If the cable has a bad area in it, it'll produce the exact symptoms you are talking about. Buy a new cable from amazon (I believe it's $2) and see if it helps. I've gone though 3-5 cables in the past few years of using the AUX on my MDX and Accord.

If that doesn't fix it, it may be the jack in the center console. It's not that hard to replace and I believe the whole assembly is $40

it sound to me that the cable itself is going bad, you need to replace the calbe, BTW Aux doesn't support surround sound, if "surround sound" you refer about is that on/off surround sound option and that kinda shaddy all it does is focus voice into center speaker and the rest bass is going through other speaker. I suggess you try a real DVD-A DTS format for a eye opening in surround sound.

I agree, sounds like the cable has gone bad. It happens.
