Have dealership put nav in?

Hi everyone,

New member! Love the site!

Wanted everyone's advice on something, please!

I'm being an awesome girlfriend and putting nav in my boyfriend's '04 Acura TL. Now, the question is...should I go through the dealership to get it done or have it done by some other store or whatever?

The dealerships is sooo expensive...that's why I'm wondering if I should go to someone else.

Thanks everyone!

You're going to get directed to the search function of this site!

That aside, you won't find a dealer that'll do that for you.

There are a few people here who have done it but it's not easy or cheap.

And Welcome to the site! My wife is as awesome as you are. She lets me do anything I want to my car!

Wow Ghost!

In my opinion, if you can find a dealer that will retrofit a navigation system in your bf's TL, then that's the way to go. Yes, it is very expensive, but the installation work, and parts, will be warrantied.

Also, I totally agree: You really are an awesome gf for doing this!

1st question should be is this aftermarket or factory nav, unless I'm missing something you guys are jumping the gun.

well, it will cost well over 2k in parts and then labor for factory nav. If you go aftermarket, you will loose fuctionallity of some parts of the car such as the Hands Free Link system. I would highly recommend a carputer system.

Yeah after market NAVIGATION or factory NAVIGATION?

If you really want to be cool. The amount that it would cost buy and install a factory unit is going to be allot.Buy a good after market navigation unit TomTom or whatever and the remaining cash get some rims or Ipod or _______ ..........

I'm assuming it would probably be factory. (we don't have IPod's. )

I don't want to have some repair shop screw it up if I don't have the dealership do it..but on the other hand ...the cost is insane! But...love the bf so I'll pay it.

Honestly - it will not be worth it. You are looking at over $2000 in parts, and probably about the same in labor to have it installed by the dealer. This is generally something that is added as the car is being built - not something you just put in like it's a car stereo. It is linked to climate control, the radio, HFL, and probably some other items that run in the background.

It would just be cheaper to trade in his car and get another one with the nav already in it. Just my

lol... you are some GF.. that's a lot of money

Yah..... the upgrade to Navi in my opinion is not worth it. Trade it in for a navi car.

Like I said before, a Carputer is the best thing if you have a non-navi TL. You have alot of functionallity and Nav can be added. Also it plays videos, can have an internet connection and do a bunch more. If you search for carputer, look for a thread by king of pain, he did an excellent job.
