Has anyone replaced the rear deck sub...

with an after marker one? I'm not into SPL's but I love SQ. I am thinking about removing the stock sub on the rear deck and replacing it but would like to know if anyone has actually done this mod before?

Thanks

There are several that fit. Do a search and you will find them. I want to say that people have wandered toward shallow mount a JBL...

In any case, the rear deck is not too sturdy and the stock amp only puts out about 30 watts of usable power. Not much to work with.

Yah, I was looking through those older threads and the trouble is that the recommended speakers in them are no longer made. The JL 8W3v2 for instance had been replaced by 8W3v3 and is slightly deeper.

^ I came across the same issue. I want to do the same thing. I do not know much about speakers or stereos. I just know that I do not care for the lack of bass the factory system produces. I am looking for SQ (Sound Quality) not sure what SPL means.

As far as the rear deck goes, maybe some sound deadening and rattle location might help? I just need a driver that can act as a lower mid range, upper sub frequency driver. I already have a sub in the trunk but would like it to only address the super low frequencies and not have to deal with the upper low end frequencies.

Also, I have tried desperately to find a cross over feature in the Navi system. Is there a crossover setting in the Navi software that I'm not finding?

The crossover is set static from the factory amp (and HU too). It is crossed from about 30 to 80 hz.

I would stick with what is known to work. You can find out dated speakers on ebay sometimes. There was a JBL shallow mount that was very highly regarded, IIRC.
