Has anyone had any luck with establishing the Phone-Data Connection?
Has anyone had any luck with establishing the Phone-Data Connection?
I have a 07 TL with Nav. Has anyone had any luck with establishing the Phone-Data Connection in the car's navigation system so the car can communicate with the Acura server? How about manually? I've tried all the easy setup options and failed using the iPhone. Any advice will be appreciated.
I bought a new 07 TL-S last month. I was not able to get my phone data connection made either. I have a Treo 700W on Verizon. Was told it was a Verizon issue. They block many features the phone is capable of. Did a little investigating and found some interesting info here: href="http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51. But most of it was not actionable for me. But perhaps for someone who understands phone technology it might be more helpful.
What phone/carrier do you have?
What phone/carrier do you have?
I'm not sure what you guys are trying to do, but the HFL's use of Bluetooth is very limited. Here is a recent thread on it: Play MP3/Audiobook through HFL
One of the new features of the 07 TL is that the car can utilize the data plan of your cell phone to communicate with the Acura server to schedule service and such. We're trying to establish that connection.
I believe my problems are due to the fact that my company uses Verizon which blocks alot of features of my Bluetooth enabled Treo 700W.

Well, that's interesting. I have to assume that DUN is the protocol it would use given their terminology used on the website - have you updated the firmware on the device?

That added DUN support. If you haven't updated, try the update and see if you have more success.
Nick, I haven't. I thought about it. But you can't do it via a Bluetooth connection to Active Sync and I have misplaced my USB cable. If no one else chimes in here, I'll post my results after taking this update...in a week or so when ever I can find my cable.

From HFL Site - Available/Compatible DATA Packages (doesn't mean your phone will work!) :
DATA PACKAGES FROM VERIZON
Broadband National Access, also known as "Voice Data Bundle" or "Data Add On"
DATA PACKAGES FROM CINGULAR (AT&T)
MEdia(TM) Packages
Data Connect - Smartphones & PDAs, 5MB, 10MB, 20MB, and Unlimited MB
DATA PACKAGES FROM T-MOBILE

DATA PACKAGES FROM SPRINT
Phone as Modem (PAM) - Power Vision - High speed internet connection, available on select handsets. It has full capabilities of connecting to any website and to any http server, with data transfer.
Other carrier info available on the site as well.. I still think the HFL site is a piece of a junk; mainly because it shows my old phone (HTC 8125) as functioning OK but my new phone (8525) fails; they're both WM5 and have the same bluetooth features.

DUN uses a data connection, not a voice connection.
Your old phone and you new one may say they use the same 'features' does not mean they use the same Bluetooth stack/software.
ok...I borrowed a cable and updated my treo 700w.
Then I did a google search and found some info...where else, but right here on AZ...in the RL forum: https://acurazine.com/forums/archive...php/t-789.html
I followed the steps outlined and it worked...I think. I mean, when I finished and tested the connection, the system confirmed the setup. So, I think it's working but I don't really know for sure because I don't really know what it is suppose to do when it is connected.

Can you email acuralink and have them force a notice for something like an oil change? I've never seen an acura before so I'm not sure about it's full ability.
yeah, I was expecting something dramatic...fireworks would have been nice!
I'll email them and see if they can force something. Otherwise, I'll expect to see something when it's time for my first oil change..? maybe.

Umm.. well i've got these options
- Tether via USB and get internet through the active data connection
- Connect via bluetooth and DIAL INTO the Cingular/AT&T GPRS/3G/EDGE (*99)
- Connect via bluetooth using the phone as an internet gateway, DOES NOT dial
Dialing means phone.. while it's not a voice connection you would be dialing via your voice service.

Think about it, your 2nd example was that you're dialing, but if it really worked like you're thinking you would be establishing the same connection as a old 56k computer analog modem. (that really annoying wooosh) That's the only way to send a signal through a 'voice' system. Do you really thing that's happening?

So, the only difference between these 2 is who's doing the dialing. You, or the remote machine you paired your phone to. The remote machine can do this because you allowed the DUN profile to be active when you first paired the two up.

I've connected via my 8525 using the same procedure you listed; but I don't think HFL has the ability to "dial" and authenticate with a name and password. Does anyone know what bluetooth profile the HFL data connection is attempting to use; maybe what command it's trying to send to the phone?
