Hands Free Link Problems & Workarounds

So I now have a nicely compatible BT Phone (Sanyo 8400) and am exploring the limits and functions of the Acura HFL. Nice system, but I have a few complaints and want to know who else has run into them and if there are any fixes or work arounds!!

1.) Voice Recognition seems to mis-recognize many words.
My experince w '06 TL is that VR is only about 50% accurate?

2.) Storing a phone number with an included username and password stream seems not to work.
I want to do this to automatically connect to my company and home voice mail systems. It seems that the HFL has no provision to include a long "Pause" in the character stream? Cell phones and modems have enabled a "2 second pause" character for more than 10 years. How is it that HFL seems to lack this function? Inserting "PAUSE" characters seems not to work. Setting up a second HFL entry and then "SEND"ing that stream also does not work, either because the VM system hangs up or the HFL gets the command wrong and sends a misinterpreted character stream. Anyone else tried this succesfully?

1) Yeah, it's good to leave confirmation on to be sure it got the message correctly. I'm glad the sunroof isn't on the VR system -- I'd hate for it to accidentally open in the rain while I'm trying to change the radio station!

2) I was looking thru the manual and didn't see anything about pauses either. They mentioned the SEND work-around too.

I was thinking about getting the Sanyo 8400 for the BT. (Kind of funny how a new car purchase can lead to that sort of accessory.)

I have a Sanyo VM4500 with built-in VoiceDialing (as the 8400 probably does) but that's on the handset, not via the car. But it dials numbers with pauses OK most of the time. Occasionally if the cell signal isn't right, a digit gets dropped and I need to redial it manually.

If you can get the HFL to connect to a call in-progress, you could set up the cellphone to do the voice dialing for the just those 2 numbers for work and home VM, and then let HFL pickup the rest of the call.

There's probably a side-mounted button on the Sanyo for VoiceDial, so you don't even need to open it. Still, there oughta be a better way! (Did you search the other threads?)

I've checked the other threads, seems that few (no one) has run into this issue. I noticed the manual did not make mention fo the PAUSE feature, stumbled onto it when the VR guesses wrong (once again) from a command!

I've noticed a strange behaviour from time to time with the 8400. It seems that it hangs on the HFL at times. HFL says it is making a call, but there is no voice transfer. It seems to have cleared up when I rebooted the phone!

Not enough experience with this bug to know if it is an Acura or Sanyo issue.

Calls the HFL call center seem to be unhelpful in my experience. Is it staffed by Acura or a contractor who suplied the software to Acura? They seem to thin that they have no problem or culpability!

I stored pauses and it works with my Motorola E815. I stored "Voicemail" as "* 8 6 _ _ _ _ _ _ _# [MYPIN] #"

For the pauses, just say "pause" and it inserts an underscore (_) in the display.

Good luck!
