I was wondering, why can't Alpine work with Google?

Why can't they license Google Map?

Google Map is always updated, and has traffic information.

Why the heck shall we pay XM?

Or why can't Alpine open the possibility to have cellphone download traffic information?

Right now, the way I use it's my Nokia E61 with iPhone data plan, google map for traffic information and then decide the route I'll take on my 07 TL-S.

Sounds like you should be an entrepreneur and do it. You're right though it would be awesome for our navigation systems to link up to our data cell phones and pull down dynamic updates on the fly but integration would be a hassle.

You'd have to strike deals with all parties involved, figure out royalties, figure out what data standards the uplink would support natively, also would have to have a hard drive in the car for caching/loading as VRAM wouldn't work as needed.

lots to think about but I'm sure it can be done. ANYTHING can be done.
