Getting HFL on my '04

Hi everyone,

As some of you may know, HFL is not standard on '04 TL models in Canada. I thought I would find an answer here but a quick search on the forums got me nowhere. My question is: Will I be able to install a stock HFL system into my TL? I know that it was pricey with the TSX since they did not have a standard MID (I read that up somewhere), but with the TL's standard MID would it only be a matter of plugging the module in somewhere? My radio screen already has the icon for the bluetooth stuff (I can see it when I shine a flashlight onto the screen when it is off). Has anyone tried this, or is it simply impossible due to difference in systems etc...?

Thanks!

My best suggestion for you would be to buy an ETM for your model year TL. Nothing is impossible with these cars really if you do enough research and you have enough know how. It will require a lot of research and a lot of time but if you want it bad enough I'm sure you can find a way. That is the best I can do for you because I do not have an ETM.

HFL was standard in all Canadian 3G TLs

HFL stands for "Hands Free Link" and is part of every 3rd gen canadian TLs, with or without Navi. This is for phone pairing and voice activated calling.

I believe you're talking about "voice control" of accessories (audio, ventilation etc.), which comes with the Navi package only.

I have a canadian 04 TL non-navi and I have HFL. It was not an option.

Cycle your MID display with the < > buttons and you'll see the Hands Free Link menu.

I see your point, but I am referring to the HandsFreeLink (Bluetooth) which pairs my phone. I don't even have the 2 control buttons on the left side of my steering wheel.

So I just called up Acura Canada today, spoke with the customer relations rep and asked her whether or not HFL was standard on all '04 TL models. she then went and checked with her "manuals" and informed me that HFL is only standard on US spec models and not on Canadian Models. For Canada, HFL was offered as a seperate option, through the "Technology Package", "Dynamic Package", or the "Navigation Package". As for Potvin I believe that some dealers like to add some options on and say it is "standard" (they did the same with with my Mom's 2004 CR-V)... anyways... anyone got any ideas?

Ok I see. As my 04 is a manual transmission model, it is refered as "Dynamic" and HFL is included. I was not aware of the HFL being part of this package as the stated characteristics were the manual transmission, Brembo front brakes and a bigger rear sway bar.

Sorry for my innacurate answer.

npnp, I am going to write up a list of differences between Canadian and American TLs soon, as it seems that I am not the only one confused. dammit why does Canada always get inferior stuff when it comes to cars...
