Gauging Interest: Direct Aux Input Module
Gauging Interest: Direct Aux Input Module
I can fabricate a nice module that is plug and play with the xm system (using relays and such) that can be plugged in the back of the car relatively near the DOM unit

Are you saying you would ditch the idea of integrating with the auxiliary CD (CDC) functions and basically just "relay into" the XM Loop ? Keep it simple and not even try all the other integration that other units seem to keep screwing up?
I've got the BlitzSafe iPod unit that retains XM and I've become so tired of its quirks that I've thought of cannibalizing it for its connectors and such but then to replace the guts with relays, or SS audio switches, to simply switch the iPod in/out in place of the XM.
The real trick I'd want to incorporate is to sense the iPod being turned on (ideally by a signal from the iPod docking connector, not audio level sensing) , and then auto switch it in place of the XM. My unit would charge the iPod as well.
So the long answer to your question is YES. I'd be interested. Even if if it is just a straight aux-in device I can take it form there....perhaps with the Belkin iPod thing...

haha yea... just a basic direct input... course i'll make it all clean looking and plug in play and whatnot...
i dont need ipod integration with the CDC functions
i wasn't thinking about specifically the ipod, my intentions were for DVD and any RCA inputs neccessities
if there is enough support, i can crank em out!

Right. Sounds on target. The CDC stuff is way over rated for simple aux in. I didn't think you were up for the ipod part.
So basically you mean a unit that plus in between the XM connector and the radio that has RCA jacks on it. I'd imagine there will be a switch to control XM or Aux in.
Please post more details and an estimated price when you have them.

yup, its basically a tap into the XM harness. The XM harness has 4 wires for left and right (RCA basically), so we will be using relays to switch between XM and RCA input... the switch will be 12v... meaning when the switch is off (no current) the XM will go through the harness. When the switch is on (12v to the relays), it will let the AUX in, go through.
so, in my setup, when i switch on the dvd player which is 12v to DOM unit, i also switch over from XM to AUX on the same switch, so both are controlled through one switch...
hopefully this is enough info, and you can understand what i'm trying to do... let me know if you want anymore info...
i'm basically doing this for fun and a time killer on weekends... see if i can help anyone else out who doesn't like using ground level electronics
i'm working out pricing, but the more ppl the lesser the price
