Gauge/Amp Power Wire
Gauge/Amp Power Wire
I have spent about 2 hours searching this forum for how people are hooking up their gagues power wire and also what people tap into to run the amp ref wire.
I know some people just tap an empty spot in the fuse box but i was not sure about how safe that is but i willing to do it if there is no other way. Thanks in advance, if there are threads about this sorry just link them on here and ill figure it out!

wanting to know how big of a gauge of power wire to go? depends on what you're pushing.
8gauge will get the job done.
4gauge will get the job done.
0gauge will get the job done.
one of them is underkill and the other overkill.
and most ppl use fuse #32 for the remote wire. you have to buy an add a fuse from autozone or the like...

Post the specs of your amp(s) and you can get some power wire gauge suggestions.
Your power needs to be run from your batter. The negative from a soild position in the trunk somewhere. The remote will work great with an add-a-fuse as posted above.

New member in the building! Just bought a 08 TL with navi last week. I plan on running my amp and subs to the stock radio and I also have the same question as OP. Here is the amp that I will be pushing http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...iers/KAC-8105D. I went to Best Buy and they told me I would need a 8 gauge wire, but they didnt tell me how many watts is should be. I've also heard the lower the gauge, the better. Can somebody help me out?

Not sure how geeked you want to be on this, but the main rule is what amount of amperage you want the wire to carry with out melting.
I pulled this off the net:
Then use the appropriate fuse/circuit breaker size to protect the system.

Cable doesn't have watts...watts is the draw of electricity...you just have to make sure the cable it big enough to handle the AMPERAGE (watts x volts = amps...IIRC).
So if you pull thru too much juice into a small wire, it'll melt.
Just add up the AMP fuses and get a wire that's big enough for it.
EX:
My sub amp has 2 60AMP fuses and my mids/high amp has 1 60AMP Fuse, so you want your main to be able to handle ABOUT 180 AMPS (although that's a safety MAX you'll never likely hit).
