Frustrating Navi issue

Ok, I've looked thru the Owner's manual and performed a thread search....and zilch.

Here's the issue.... Last night I was trying to put in a address into the Navigation system. So, I choose to do it by Street. I wanted to put in "West Peachtree", but every time I typed "West" followed by a space, a damn list would pop-up on which I would have to pick a street, West Peachtree wasn't in the list and I couldn't finish typing it in. West Peachtree was been around for years!!!!!!

Is there any way to disable this "feature"?????

Thanks in advance for the replies

hmmm, now there's a thought. Offically, its "West Peachtree", but to get the name to fit on street signs it's "W Peachtree".

I'll give it a shot tonight to see if "W Peachtree" is found.

Or you could search for a POI on West Peachtree and see what it uses as the street address.

All you have to do is type in "Peachtree". NO WEST. Then it will ask you which one you want and you will be able to select "West Peachtree". You can't put the West in the original search. Just search the street name and then it will prompt you if there is a West, east, north or south.

ignore compass directions

The instruction manuals say to just enter the street name, without the direction. Once the name is entered along with the address number, the NAVI will ask which direction/city. If there is no such address number in one direction on a street, the Navi will automatically direct you to the proper location.
Navi works well here in LA's downtown which is divided into North & South Grand, North & South Figueroa, North-South [insert name of any of 10+ other downtown streets], East & West Olympic, etc.

Seeing how you live in Atlanta and every other street is named Peachtree, no wonder the Navi is confused!!

Just type in Peachtree and you should get a menu choice one of them probably being W. Peachtree. I get the same problem with many streets in LA where if you try to put in direction (West, East, N, S) it has trouble finding it because it may be listed as (W, Ea. So. South, etc.). I supposedly live on W. Laurel but Navi and Google maps and almost everything else omits the "W". Go figure.

Is it possible you were looking in the wrong state? I did the same thing the other day and noticed I was looking in Alabama instead of Arizona. Just a thought...

Nope, definitly wasn't the wrong state......

heh heh heh, love the statement by caesartheday, there are too many "Peachtree's" in ATL.

That being said thou, I followed the suggestions about putting in the street name first .... then doing the other stuff, and that worked. BUT, it's still f**cked up if you ask me. It's just going to take some time to get use to the functionality.

Thanks all for the replies!

Ok, after doing a search so as not to get scolded, I found this old thread which is the closest thing that describes my problem with the Navi in my '04 6MT. I just upgraded to the 2011 nav disc.

Yesterday, I plugged in an address for a person's house I was going to visit, and the thing literally would not allow me to type in the correct address.

It assumed correctly my current state (MO), then I typed in the city, and it got that fine, but the address is "E. 37th Terrace," but it only found "37th terrace." No option for east or west 37th Terrace, even if I tried to spell the word "east"--both of which do exist (my city is very "direction" oriented in how streets are named). No matter what I did, it would only give me "37th Terrace."

Next, it would not allow me to type in the correct house number, as the numbers I needed were grayed out (I assume it did this because it didn't recognize the correct street, and the number I needed doesn't exist on the incorrect street it identified). This house is 10 plus years old and came up on Google just fine.

I was so incredibly frustrated that this just-upgraded superbrain in my car wouldn't find a simple house address, and couldn't even come up with the correct street name or allow me to type in the right house number. The only reason I found the house without calling the guy was that I recalled the map I viewed briefly on Google before leaving.

This has happened twice now in the 3 weeks I've owned the car. What am I doing wrong?

I searched long and hard for a 6MT with Navi and flew almost 500 miles to find this one and drive it home, and I have to say I'm not impressed with this option so far.

IMHO the Alpine Navi for all Acuras is subpar compared to a garmin or TomTom. I use my navigation multiple times daily and I cannot tell you how many times its pissed me off because I drove around in a big circle to get somewhere, instead of taking a side street - or how you cant find the names of streets, etc. You would think with the new software updates they would fix this...
