Post Front Speakers

I am thinking about installing a new audio system. One of my questions is how are the front door speakers and the dash tweeters connected? I am assuming that they both use the same channel from the amp. Is there a cross-over, in-line resistors or what?

What I want to do is take the outputs from the stock amp, use dave navrones into an aftermarket amp run it back through the stock wires to the speakers in the front doors and the dash.

Thanks.

The tweeters and the door speakers share the same output from the amp. The tweeters are marked 4ohm and have a 3.3uF cap mounted on them as a 1st order filter. As far as I know the woofers have no crossover components. I've thought of adding something, even if just a simple first order air-wound inductor, at the woofer end but just haven't got around to adding it. That alone will usually get the woofer to perform a bit better. I just upgraded the tweeters (Infinity 1011t) and center channel (Boston s35) so I plan on looking more into the woofer crossover issue more since the 1011t have 2nd order crossovers at 2.5k.

Not sure what a "dave navrones" is but it is likely that you will need to put the crossover components at the "driver ends" of the wires if you are looking to keep the stock harness in the kick panel. Otherwise you should be able to splice in your x-overs near the amp.

Any idea what frequency a 3.3uf cap crosses over at in the case of the factory tweeter? I too plan on adding in the Infinity 1011t however I'm concerned there may be frequency duplication between the 6.5 in the door and the tweet when introducing the new tweeter crossed over at 2.5K.

So then the wiring for the tweeter comes off the woofer?

Technichally not from the woofers but from the same output on the amp as the woofers. See the diagrams in this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131637 Page 22-398 of the scan has the speakers and amp

And.... still not sure what a "dave navrones" is, I can't sleep

Here is the weird part...a 3.3uF cap with a 4ohm driver is -3db down at 12Khz. That seems wicked high to roll off a tweeter in a 2 way system. However if the driver is really not 4oms as marked the crossover frequency could be different. But after installing the 1011t tweeters I can say there may be a bit of duplication OR less of a notch in the response. It's really hard to tell since auditory memory is about a few seconds max. I do notice more pronounced mids and clearer highs. Again all that is very subjective and not based on any measurements. I also have noticed that I now seem to set treble to -1 or -2 so I do think there may be some additional tweaking to be done. Things I might be looking into are 1) 1st or 2nd order Xover for the woofers at about 2.5Khz, 2) tweeter attenuation with non-inductive resistors but that can be tricky since I don't know where the tweeters resonance is and haven't torn open the Infinity xovers yet and 3) just leaving it alone!

So I wouldn't worry about it too much. The 1011s are really pretty nice, are SO easy to mount in the stock grilles and you have lots of ways to tune them after the fact. All that will take is a few bucks at partsexpress.com or madisound.com

Diagram helps, but where is the physical wire connection for the tweeters located?

Adobeman I figured since you were a seasoned forum member you would know what Dave Navones are.

"David Navone are Line Out Audio Converters to take the signal after the stock amp and send it to an aftermarket amp."

Sorry for the confussion.

The amp is in the kick panel on the passenger front side. The connector is there and the wire colors are in the diagram. On the other end at the tweeter the tweeter has a little jack on it where the wires plug in. That jack is little and there is not much harness length. The jack is on the tweeter and the plug on the harness. I found that the plug will accept 2 pins of a 0.10" circuit board header. I had some around the house so I soldered the new tweeters (w/ x/over) to that and just plugged them in. But now I know.

As for as David Navone I hadn't heard but you had David Navrone and that doesn't return any links in Google....not one.

So I fat fingered the spelling thanks for pointing out my non-typing/spelling skills. LOL!

Knowing the wiring locations before I start will help, thanks.

from stock amp the wires go to a junction box over the amp. there each front channel splits to two wires, one for woofer, one for tweeter. woofer signal is full range not filtered, and tweeter signal, as they already pointed out, get filtered by a cap.
