Floating Touchscreen Head Units and Compatible Speaker Size
So there are three solutions I've seen to upgrading the stock radio.
The Tesla screen solution from China. There's a big thread about it. Lots of little quirks that would drive me crazy. Software looks laggy and glitchy. Not for me.
The Android screen+bezel (also from China) that replaces the Nav/AC+Radio control part (if non-Nav) and keeps the stock radio. There's a guy that shows you how to keep your OEM radio controls to use with it (
). I liked this solution because I like the location of the replacement screen and that it keeps the original volume knob. But my OEM radio is now fucking up (intermittently loses all audio when hitting a bump). So this solution is useless for me. Also a lot of custom wiring needed.
So that leaves just replacing the stock radio with a regular aftermarket unit. The downside of this solution is that it's mounted way too low. But, I've seen a few aftermarket units that have screens that can be adjusted to a taller height. Examples here, here and here. My rough estimates says these can be adjusted to the perfect height (for me with a non-Nav, that means just below the top AC control screen). Has anyone installed one of these?
Second, Crutchfield says none of their speakers it in our doors lol. That can't be right, what speaker sizes have you guys been able to install and what mods are needed?
Thanks all

I decided to use MobileMaxxAudio (not a sponsor) kits to make things easier. I bought their plug n play 5 channel amp and subwoofer upgrade package. I replaced all speakers with Kickers and got one of the floating touchscreen head units from Crutchfield (Jensen CAR813). I was never looking for the most explosive system or anything, I just wanted significantly better audio and a touchscreen for Android Auto that wasn't placed so damn low.
I'm happy with my results. The bass kicks and it gets plenty loud. I feel the screen could be slightly higher but it's definitely a huge improvement from stock. The install took a lot of planning (mostly figuring out where to splice and dice to radio harnesses). If you're interested in the nitty gritty details of this install for yourself, let me know.
