Finally found something the JL a6450 is good for...

I already posted this on another forum but thought I would spread the love around....

This amp has been the biggest pain in the ass next to the ms8... Today I changed the configuration a little with the Mac powering the mids and tweeters and the JL bridged for the mid bass. It already dropped channel 3 months ago. Today I hooked everything up and when I got to the channel testing portion of the MS8 I had only one mid bass working. After troubleshooting for more than an hour the other started working for a while then stopped again. Then both went out completely. Long story short the amp took a dump. I had a friend bring over his bnib Interfire 4 channel which I bridged for way more power than the JL could ever dream of producing and gave him $100 bucks for it. Problem temporarily solved.

It's been nothing but trouble over the last few months so I thought it should go out with a bang. I set it out in the street and ran it over about 20 times both front and rear tires. The damn thing would not crush and this car weighs 3,900lbs with me in it. I went as fast as I dared and even hit the brakes as I went over it but I didn't want to get too crazy and risk kicking the amp up and hurting the car. I had planned on posting the carnage but all there is to see is a tire mark on it. I may just keep it around as a ramp to get a little extra clearance I need to get a jack under the car. This is the most useful this amp has ever been.

The MS8 will be next to take the test.

I'm heavily considering getting rid of it. I've given it every chance imaginable. Every time I'm about to run it over I get a great tune and love it again. Maybe after witnessing what happened to the JL amp it will shape up. If not I'll give you a great deal.

I took a couple pictures of the JL, you can barely make out the Nitto tire print over it. Took it apart, nothing is noticeably burned up and it does not smell at all. Maybe I'll see about getting it repaired since it did survive about 20 attempts on it's life today.

No idea. I want something that can run a center because I don't want the 6.5" to go to waste. I haven't even begun looking around. I know Nick really likes the Bit One and I believe Arc might be coming out with something really neat. I've heard the 3sixty.3 is another year away. Also waiting to see if there are any software updates for the MS8 in the future. If I could save a good tune and have the option to skip the auto tune and do it manually I would keep it. I don't see a reason that couldn't happen with a software update..... Although Andy said storing an entire "tune" would take up a ton of memory.

Well at least you know where JL spent their money while building that amp.

I don't have any experience with the 3.sixty.3. But with the 3sixty.2 & Bitone.1 you can save as many tunes as your hearts desire. I would definately choose the Bitone.1 over the 3sixty.2. The bitone.1 will let you have four tunes that you can choose with the DRC controller at any given moment. and saving and uploading a file is alot faster with the Bitone.1 vs the 3sixty.2. Some of the controls are not fully adjustable on the 3sixty.2. You can't do a 3 way active plus a sub with the 3 sixty.2. Im really interested to see what ARC and the 3sixty.3 has to bring to the table, but for now the Bitone.1 gets my vote.

The bottom configuration is currently how my car is currently setup.
