Adding XM to Canadian Spec TL
Adding XM to Canadian Spec TL
Hi - I've got a 2006 TL in Canada, no sat radio. I understand that the navi/stereo has a jack for it in the back; however, I need to add the antenna and I guess the XM module. Is it a big thing to install it? Here is the antenna part number I found for my WDP: 39150-SEP-A11ZC.
Does anyone have any idea if this is all I need (I assume some wire, too) or is there something extra required for us up here? Also, can I just get any aftermarket XM module?

you are going to need to put in the antenna so that involves drilling a hole in the roof to have the antenna outside the car. Also you will need the tuner that translates the signal from the antenna to the radio and the harness to connect the radio to the tuner.
Sounds like a big job. I take it I would have to run power to the antenna from an aftermarket XM module. I'd say it's not worth it, but for $77CDN annualy, it seems worth it, given the absolute shite radio stations out here.
Ok here's the deal, kinda funny cause I was going to create a new thread about this whole issue. I was pissed when I bought my car back in 2006 and it didn't have the XM feature but my buddy's 05 G35 had that option. So after being on this site shortly after I bought the car, I found about the navi hack and the diag. menu, and there was XM, but highlighted in red, so technically it's disabled. It's disabled cause we have no module, but when you hook up the isimple module to our factory decks, it runs through the XM interface. Only thing is for the 04-06 CDN. models, the only way to access this is by cycling with the mode button on our steering wheels cause we have no XM button on our decks. To make this boring story short, I got an XM module from a member on this site as well as the antenna and half of the harness. I sent the harness to Martin in NY to attach the other end (both ends have the exact identical harensses connectors) and from what I found out, you don't need the antenna on the roof, you can mount it inside on top of your dash. Now this is just hearsay, so I don't know how reception will be or as a matter of fact even this will work cause our stereos differ from 04-06 from our us counterparts. From as far as I know, I will be the 1st to hook this up and try it out to see if it works. The reason I haven't created a thread on this yet is cause I have a little midgit on the way and even before he is born, he has already tied me up with his 'nursery'. So when I get some time, I will rip apart my car and try this out, then my tinted tails from ack05, and my door sills. It just keeps on piling up. That kid's gonna get a smack when he's born.
That's him crying, this is me
