Factory Rear speakers are 2 ohm?????
Can anybody tell me if this is correct?
I went to a local Hifi Buy's to have the rear speakers replaced. I was going to
replace them with some great MB quartz 6.5 speakers (which are 4 ohm).
I just received a call that even thou the speakers sound great.....they are at
half the volume of the factory install because the POS factory speakers are 2 ohm!!!
Does anybody have any good suggestions as to what to do in this situation?? I love the new speakers...but can't live without the volume.

Yes that is correct. The factory speakers are cheap paper 2 ohm.
The best way:
I found that it's better to replace all the speakers for balanced sound. You will have to replace that POS factory amp too. Not many make 5 channel amps for this type of system. Most are 4 channel plus a sub channel. Hifonics makes a 5.1 channel, JL Audio makes a 6 channel. These are all-in-one amps. You may have to go with multi amps. Any suggections from the group??
The cheap way is to use your fader to balance the sound

Thanks for the reply King of Pain!!!!
Yeah, I've thought about replacing all the speakers.....and the amp. However,
the only thing that I don't like about a new amp, is that I'll have to give up some
trunk space..(I'd rather have a something that could be hidden rather than something that impinges on the trunk).
If I find some speakers that will work with the existing amp...I'll go that route. Or if I find an amp that will replace the existing amp - I'll give that a try also.

I used the JL Audio 6 channel with the AMP under my seat. The amp powers the 12"sub that was custom molded in the trunk on the left side indention so it takes up very little space. If dialed in right the factory speakers sound pretty good and work well with the sub.
The guys that installed the system also got the alarm to close the windows and sunroof when armed which supposedly couldn't be done!

If you have 4ohm MB quartz then if you add a MB quartz 4ohm tweeter then it would be perfect..2ohm plus you have an extra tweeter for more highs. That is what I would do.

After putting the heads together at HiFi Buys....this is what we came up with....
1) Replace all the speakers ( MB quartz (4 ohm) all the way around.
2) Add an additional Amp (Alpine 200W 4 channel) that will control all the speaks.
The existing factory POS amp will only control the center and subwoof.
The Alpine amp will be placed under the passenger seat
3) The total price is $906.46.
Does this sound like a "doable" thing??? I'm kinda new at this so any imputs are very much appreciated!

The Alpine amp is good, but you have to use the Alpine VehicleHub with it. It uses the AI net to turn it on. There is no external amp turn on. I looked into that solution.

Thanks for that information Black.....I was going to look into that amp also. But was also searching for the "foot print" of the existing factory amp to see if it would be possible to mount that new Alpine amp in it's place.
With the new information, I guess I'll have to stick with the original installer's recomendation to have 2 amps. The original that controls the sub and the center. And the 4 channel Amp that will sit under the passenger seat and control the speakers.
Good information thou!
